What whales should not be eaten ?

List of Whale species

Sperm Whale
Blue Whale
Fin Whale
Bryde's Whale
Humpback Whale
Right Whale
Minke Whale
Pygmy Right Whale
Bowhead Whale
Gray Whale
Sei Whale
Narwhal
Beluga

Cuvier's Beaked Whale
Giant beaked whale
Shepherd's Beaked Whale
Longman's Beaked Whale
Bottlenose whale
Mesoplodont whale

Pilot Whales

Unfortunately there are 23 whale species so I'll group "Dwarf Sperm Whale" & "Pygmy Sperm Whale" ; the "Shepherd's Beaked Whale" and "Longman's Beaked Whale" and the "Pygmy Right Whale" & "Gray Whale".

i wonder what dwarf sperm would taste like o_O

oh and if anyone says they'd eat any of them, i will hunt you down for sport. and then feed you to the very whales you threaten.

IIRC, the bowhead is the most grievously endangered, so it would make sense to protect at least that species.

Oh, I see. This thread is an invitation to comments like the ones in post #2 and #3.

On topic: The endangered ones, dunno which they are though.

agreed, and yes I don't know which of these whales are endangered either :)
edit: after I saw c_h's post I'd conclude that none should be eaten, IMHO...

btw: anybody got an idea why it's called sperm whale in english? strikes my as rather strange

I'll have a 12oz. Pygmy Right steak, rare. With a side order of shredded Cuvier's Beaked. Followed up by a nice Humpback Whale Salad, easy on the vegetables. And a pint of boiled Beluga blubber to wash it all down with.

Really, I mean, where can you order this stuff anyway?

I think the only whale that is not endangered is the Minke whale, but do not quote me on that.

If they had it, I'd probably try it...unless it was endangered I suppose...but then again, if they had already killed it...hmmm....

The whales from Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

William Shatner needs those to save the Earth.

I voted Giant Beaked Whale, partly to upset the poll results, and partly because I had a mental picture of some kind of giant platypus of the deep.

That would be cool enough to offset it's innate deliciousness, while still ensuring that there were plenty of substitute whales for dinner purposes.

This is the Giant beaked whale:

I'm guessing you would like for people not to eat Killer Whales? I believe that if people eat them in moderation and aren't wasteful of them, then all are edible. Though I'll let other people do the eating, I'll stick with land-based meats.

Are you an amateur marine biologist or just have a liking of whales Rik?

none should be eaten, period. There's not a single species of whale abundant enough to allow for significant hunting.
