(stupid UBB told me to remove some of the smilies, then told me I have to wait 100 secs. I hate to wait. It takes too much time and it usually doesn't result in me making money)

I'm not an expert of Middle Eastern languages but here's my guess.

I suspect the first syllable should be pronounced as a schwa. That would make the 'U' more intuitively correct than the 'O'. However, Americans have a great tendency to vocalise schwas in their dialect of English: the final vowel of 'marathon' is a good example. So it wouldn't surprise me that that's what's happened here, and that it's even crept into the spelling.

On the other hand, Duck's sentiment has a lot to be said for it.

Isn't OSAMA or USAMA a title? Not really a name per se?

Happens a lot when you transliterate from different languages using different alphabets:

like Koran or Quran, Khadaffi or Ghaddaffy

or from Chinese: Peking or Beijing, Chungking or Chongqing

Hello everyone. I would love to know if it is possible to convert a .gif file to a .bmp , and what program to use to edit .gif files. I have paint, good for .bitmaps, not for .gif.<br />Thanks and his name is spelled Usama, FYI.

Just solved the "mystery". It's undoubtably Usama. In arabic there isn't any way to say "O".
