What's Up With the History Channel?

When I used to watch it 3+ years ago, I remember lots of WW2 and Roman stuff with some Nostradamus, alternative/conspiratorial Bible stuff, and Free Masons sprinkled in. They can't focus on everything at once though, so it's natural that the programming menu changes up gradually.

Don't you mean Mail Call?

My bad been a while. It also probably didn't help that the cable here was often 3 hours out of sync with the rest of Australia (they ran a single system for transmissions) so all the prime-time coverage wasn't exactly prime-time.

If only that was it, it wouldn't be popular enough for the History Channel.

It's a New Age fetish, and is as convoluted as that would imply. Superstition for the modern human.

Yep, and the "Bible Code" thing was truly revolting. I mean, take any 700 page book, and I'm sure you will get a prediction or two if you shift here and there.

On a side note, the British voice over is much better then the American one.

I think I saw something on the HC that did exactly that. I think it was "Moby Dick."

Those same Bible code episodes had someone do the same thing with the Hebrew translation of "War and Peace."

Omg ze bible talks to me in riddles hidden by god for some unknown purposes which may or may not refer to specific events that may or may not have ever happened lulz!!!!!!!!!!1111 [all in caps!]

The History Channel has never been more than repetitive World War Two programing, UFO hunts, Monster Quest (including Bigfoot, Nessie and everything in between), ghost hunters, 90s reruns of the Apocrypha programs, Modern Marvels, doomsday prophecies, Mail Call, Dogfights, Mega Disasters, gang and prison crap, conspiracy theories, and lots of inane speculation about the future (Life after Humans) all of which is littered with commercials for Ice Road Truckers. So History Channel put out cute documentary sets like Barbarians back in the day? They've still had nothing but stupefying filler between anything interesting that they may have published every couple of years (undoubtably in sync with the release of a book or movie i.e. the DaVinci Code).

I am watching the current 'Universe' series they have and I quite enjoy it.

Last Sunday, I watched the Battle of Manila docu and found it to be a very good documentary. I don't know what the issue here. Maybe what they show in the States currently is different

The thing is, they made this thing called "The Military History Channel", and shunted all of the WWII stuff onto it. So all that was left was the conspiracy theories. And they don't even have the good stuff left. I want to watch Secret Passages again goddammit! That show was a classic!

Really? I'll check it out

I stopped watching the History Channel regularly about two years ago, and check it every once in awhile to see if they might have anything good on. To this day, I am still waiting for a good documentary
Yeah, me too.

It was never really great, but at least the topics were better. So, History put all its good stuff on Military and Discovery put all its good stuff on Science. One less reason to pay for cable imo

Wrong, Dirty Jobs on DISCOVERY is better then any show on SCIENCE.

The history channel is crap. I was so excited when it was finally introduced to Singapore Cable. Phh, pure rubbish. A game if Heart of Irons II would have been more historically accurate than whatever is on now.

Turns on TV to check. Ancient Discoveries. Dont hold your breath, its about the 1421 Theory... I wish they would differentiate the Ancient Period from sometime long ago.
Next on the History Channel, Ooh something interesting. Something about a German Businessman who risks his life for Chinese refugees against Japan.

"Shockingly" the best documentary regarding History I watched was on Discovery, about the Atomic Bomb. I enjoyed that.
