When do we switch to Monarcy?

This past turn the Romans, Zulu, China, Egypt and Greece all acquired Monarchy. This means we will get it from the Great Library at the beginning of our next turn.

We now need to decide when we will switch governments.

With our relatively low city count and general happiness we should have 5 or 6 turns of anarchy. I believe this would be disasterous right now. We have a war build up and the Heroic Epic in production.

I propose that we enter anarchy when the following conditions are met:

• The Heroic Epic is complete.
• Our defenses are completely in order.
• We have enough horsemen for a horse -> knight rush.

When we have the Heroic Epic and are defense's are in order.... Those are the two we need the most.

Through... If it is only a one choice thing then when are defense's are in order... as I doubt anyone else will be able to build the heroic epic.

No need to worry about other civs building the Heroic Epic since it is a Small Wonder anyway .

Yeah... That's what I said early, but it goes against my nature to switch goverments while a wodner is being built.... Strange.... I have Civ insiticints.

Same here, I tend not to build a wonder when I am in transition of Governments. .

Not me. I say switch immediately. We will need the improvements that come with Monarchy to help us prepare for War. If we don't do it now, there will never be a GOOD time in the near future to do so. Let's get the anarchy out of the way and plow forward in a more advanced form of Govrnment.

I would agree normally, but the AI isn't really that stupid.... Japan knows are forces are close to it's border.... so it's increased it's number of troops their. The war with the Aztecs should have made American cautious also... A anarchy state with inproper defense is mainly asking for the AI to attack.

With the dawn of War, I strongly recomend a government switch before we get into any conflict. Though we may have to deal with the side effects of Anarchy.

I say:

Complete defenses
Take up a posture against Japan

This way while in anarchy they won't likely attack us, and if they do we are in position to launch a counter-strike with what forces we do have. I'm not worried about the Epic right now, its a small wonder so we can deal with it later.

I agree.... Also I would suggest moving swordsmen onto their border to begin with.... Then if war does happen move horsemen toward their border as their much faster.

I would agree on Compleating our defensed (Ensuring that every city has a standing defender) and enough units for the front lines.

Once the War has started, we can then switch governments. Since the Heroic Epic is a Small Wonder, we dont realy need to worry .

I believe that we should build up the horseman and finish the wonder then we will revolt then delcare war. We will be posied with lotsof horseman a wonder that will increase our chance of heroes and a wartime gov.

I think we should do a quick tally of our economics before we switch. Remember, our military support is halved for every town we have. We need to know our unit support projections before/after. The gains from monarchy include a small decrease in corruption and the change to a monetary rush. I've ran a few unsuccessful monarchies because my military was larger than my empire. I find it best to switch after a few towns have become cities.

We should also investigate whether or not we want to use any population rushing before a switch since it will be our last opportunity. I think we should be feeling we *have* to switch when we revolt, not before.

We need to connect our incense/furs/gems before the switch, I just wouldn't feel comfortable without atleast two luxeries during Anarchy.

We must ensure our defenses are built up. A relatively weak Civ in anarchy is like a kid with a "Kick Me" sign on his back.

No need to wait for the Heroic Epic, however I'd like to at least have a spear in every city and the incense before switching.
