When does the AI gift a technology to me?

Hello,

Does anyone know when the AI gives a tech for free assuming your relations are friendly and you ask for a free gift?

AI also gives a tech due to a demand, do you know again under which conditions it gives the tech to a more powerful civ?

I am interested in learning the math behind it.

Now it's a bit exxagerated here - you can get cheap backfill techs sometimes. But i really would not count on getting something good out of it.

You can ask for money tho from time to time. They will often give in on 100 - 250 gold requests. Sometimes more.

I've never had an AI gift me a tech. I *think* they only do it if their personalilty allows it, are friendly, and you are seriously behind in techs.

I don't know, though.

Once Ghandi came and gave me a tech, I didn't ask he came and gave . I was seriusly behind, Ghandi feel for the backwarded. I gave up though too much of the last.

I have gotten techs from pleased and friendly AI's, I regulary ask from time to time. it's easy to get cheep techs. for example: you just finished astics and press on Literature. now it's time for TGlbr you think. but you need Polyteism, omg, anying. i'm sick of this... so instead of reserch it you can ask pleased and friendly AI's for it and they give you that sometimes. don't ask to often though. once every 40 turns on epic is ok.

I will take that gold thing in to practice. sounds great

I think they decide how much gold they want to give by percantage of available gold.

I don't know, though.

They often gift you techs if you're backwards and good relations, eventually they try to play you out against one of their own enemies.

When you ask for help, your giftpoints will act as a percantage chance of success, IF they find your demand reasonable. Your gift points are reduced to 0 even if you dont get what you asked for. That is why if you ask for all of a friends gold and they decline, they won't give you ANYthing, whether if you started out with just asking for a bit, they woulod maybe have accepted.

Interesting info. I assumed something like this from experience, but never had any numbers. Does the refer to Standard Gamesepeed ? Or is it independant of speed at all (like some other things in diplo seem to be...) ?

If you're in a permanent alliance, you can ask for anything and the other Civ must give it to you...

I think if their score is double yours then they start handing out gifts.

Where did you read this? and under which gamespeed is the 5 gift point per turn true?

Here are the instances the AI gave tech for free.

1. Back in old Vanilla days, on a Deity map, once I got much higher power than some of the nearby AIs with Quechuas, I requested by demand from the weakest AI and it was accepted. The AI did not like me, but nevertheless accepted my request. 2nd time request was rejected, but I want to know how the cooling period is calculated.

2. Gandhi outteched me by like 10 techs on a Immortal or Deity map. We had friendly status and he came and gifted me a tech out of nowhere.

3. I am in friendly status and I asked for a favor. Sometimes I get accepted , sometimes I don't. If my request is accepted, then I want to know for how many turns I am not allowed to make an additional request.

The AI on occasion gift you techs out of the blue, without you asking...but if that happens, you're pretty far behind them in tech.

You can take a lot of their cities just by asking. It's a bit ridiculous...
