Just out of interest, at what point do you think people would stop using Civ3 and move over to IndieCiv, if at all?

Just like to know what peoples thoughts are and give my self some thing to aim for.

When the civers receive an improved gameplay in the way of Civ 3 -and for many of them - an improved base for modding. For example a different attack and defense value against soft and armored targets would be very handy in my eyes.

On the other side some things are a "must be". I would count the isometric view amongst them. The world looks in a better shape when presented as it is in Civ 3 and not in such a messy way as in Civ 4 and Civ 5 (where the world looks like an exploded toilet brush).

When enough is in place that I can playtest things like how fast cash/culture/production/science etc. builds up, I think. I like to try and nip balance issues in the bud where possible :)

As soon as you have a basic combat system, infrastructure system, and technology system, I'd begin moving away from Civ 3.

Once you have a functional multiplayer and some more small developments with the above items I'd make a full move I guess.

I think people will switch once they see what can be done, and once a few mods are released I believe the people who played civ 3 will switch.

I'd move if one could convert full Civ3 mods to Indie Civ. Otherwise, no way.
But if there are new features it and new ways of doing things, Civ 3 mods may not work.

- I would 2moro, if I knew how to get it operational. I don't really play Civ games at the present. I just mess around with the Editor and Gimp, adding units, resources, buildings, making maps etc. [ and 100s of new unit_32 pcx ] :aargh: . So an Editor with more options would suit me greatly.

I'm hoping that both Civ's will be compatible with each other. Well it is call IndieCiv. Imagine being able to even upgrade all the Mods that are already in place to a new level. :)

Yes, I deleted everything, downloaded latest version, un-zipped it, double clicked on 'IndieCivEditor' .- ERROR> ... MSVCP100.dll is missing. - Thought I would wait a few days and then try downloading again.
[ Internet is not cheap at the moment...like $50 for 2GB,,, so random downloading is 'closed'.]

By this I mean to have it working like my current CIV3 editor.. press on and it works, game and all.

Right, but I won't spend another 8 years of modding to get to the current level. ;) It's just my personal view, not regarding others.

You need to try what i suggested here http://forums.civfanatics.com/showpost.php?p=11988506&postcount=8

But if you have a limited internet you might not want to.

Thank you for your reply's.

It would seem apparent that what you really want to see is the game code being developed and not fancy new editor features being built.

So instead of trying to use a complex mod that needs editor features, I might just grab an earth map with the default rules and build the game up with that.

No, it's just under development. But I guess there are several guys out there that would rather love to add new features or see glitches (the uboat bug, for instance) fixed than build everything new from the bottom up. So if one could import the whole biq without losing any features, that would be a real gain.

I had been using [C3C] World War II European Front to do my testing, it would import the map, cities, units etc. But if you like I can use yours for testing instead.

But yes the plan is to allow full importing of BIQ/BIC/BIX files.

Keeping the good but being able to add new schtuff would be the ideal mix. :)

Yes, game code if it's possible, but my jumping point would be when the indie editor was better than the Civ3 editor. If that's made possible with the new code, great.
