First of all, say hello to Sally the seagull:

This will have to do for now, since I haven't developed my pictures yet...

Summer's almost over and I am finally back from a short trip to the Black Sea. The water was warm but the sun punishingly hot. Still, it wasn't that bad.

How about you? :)

I went sailing around the Baltic sea in a small sailing boat.
The 'ports of call' included the old Hansestadt (medieval trading town) of Stralssund. A very interesting place with a lot of history attached to it. Apparently it has been controlled by the Swedes for 200 years and the Danes for 5 years before it went back to German control some time in the 17 hundreds. Only in 1870 did the city expand beyond the initial fortifications. Later it was an important naval port, and it had a naval academy. Perhaps because of that the citiciens were rudely awakened sometime in 1944 when the centre was bombed by the allies. During the time of East Germany nothing much was done to restore the centre to its former splendor. Now many buildings have been restored and the work is continuing. There are three cathedrals in the city and a monestary. Especially the monestary which has been made into a museum is interesting.

Then I went to Sassnitz. A seaside resort since the 1920s the place was reformed into a holidaycentre for high-ranking East German politicians after the division. Now the whole Island of Rügen, on which Sassnitz is situated, is being furiously rebuilt to placate the tastes of modern tourists.

All in all former East Germany was a pleasant surprise. The prices are low (because of excessive supply) and the locals are friendly.

Then I went to Gothenburg and Varberg in Sweden. Gothenburg is a very rich habour city situated on both sides of a deep inlet which extends into a canal system leading further inwards to the major lakes Väner and Vättern. Varberg which is further to the south is an old fortress city. It has a museum where among other things one can behold the rather large bullet which was extarcted from the Swedish warrior king Karl XII's left temple. According to the museum DNA analysis has shown that it is in fact the bullet thet killed him while on an expedition in Norway during the Great Northern War (I think). In that museum they also have the oldest preserved clothing of a medieval peasant. Well preserved because he was killed and lowered into a bog. The killer(s) made sure he would not refloat by ramming three wodden pikes through his back.

Due to labour issues at work, I did nto get a holiday this summer, though I did have a nice trip to the UK in May.

We went to Devon, Stratford, Carlisle, Glasgow, Ediburgh, Sunderland, Luton and London.

I'll be leaving for cyprus next saturday :D

Due to the costs of tuition and living I didn't get a summer holiday. At least I'll be leaving shortly for a long-weekend trip to a friend's cottage. Weekends are little holidays, aren't they?

Sysyphus and I should really consider emigrating from this oppressive third world hell-hole to a place of true freedom and opportunity.

I spent most of it at home, working some, except for a week at our summerhouse. I plan to do a bigger holiday trip next summer. I'll be 18 then, and I've done my three years of gymnasium...

I went to Andalucia for 2 weeks :) (south east coast of spain).
It was around 40 Degrees Celsius, and I was Lovin' it

I went to Danmark, Norway, Sweden, Hamburg and London (travelled for 6 months).

The picture shows the Preikestolen, a cliff falling 600 m straight down into the Lysefjord near Stavanger. I slept on this cliff and got a bad cough for the rest of my journey. But it was worth it.

Traveled in Norway this year...

Cities visited: Trondheim, Hønefoss, Oslo, Arendal and Kristiansand.. Stayed for a week on an island without electricty or water in Trøndelag.. Used my days fishing and walking.. Nice Place..

EDIT: Almost forgot that i went to Hirtshals (Denmark)

You Europeans and your holidays!

(insert jealous tone)

My last trip was to Bermuda. I prefer to get away in the winter, usually to Mexico or the Caribbean. I spent my vacation in town this summer, lounging at the beach by day and going out at night.
