Where / how are the saved games stored? Also, more DRM questions...

Where are the actual save games, the 'planets', stored on your HD? I can't see them in the Spore game folder, nor anywhere in My Spore Creations...

The reason I'm asking is in anticipation of having to re-install to fit a graphics card. Which is another question - do you really have to re-install the whole game for hardware changes, or can you just re-activate like you did when you first ran Spore?

Also, what happens when you uninstall? Does it ask for a connection to the DRM servers so you can get one of your installs back? I'm under the impression the restriction is 3 installs at once, not in total.

Thanks for any help!

Phone EA and ask them if it is possible to reset installs.

And remember, the line is NOT toll free and you are NOT guaranteed the right to more installs. "Case by Case inspection" means there's a great chance you aren't getting $#%#

;)

sigh :(

At least, I've found where saves are stored (on Vista):
C:\Users\[your username]\AppData\Roaming\Spore\Games

I have only one planet, but interestingly, there are two save folders. One is labelled 'old' and has smaller size in kb. I'm asuming its my previous save, but I don't want to fiddle with it right now. It would be interesting to know if we can actually have two save slots per planet. EDIT: though I have read one report that you can't succesfully transfer games between PC's, even if you copy the entire folder and all your saved creatures :(

Also, there is a preferences file which I am going to risk fiddling with, to see if it improves the building/vehicle textures issue. EDIT: no difference, seems to just save your option settings... Increasing texture quality above '3' didn't seem to do anything.

how many times have you installed it? If only once you would be fine.
You could try just putting the new card in without re- installing the game.
see how it goes?
Think it only tests your graphics on installing the game.(to see if it can play it.)
You shouldn't need to format your HDD just for a new graphics card.
As for the planets saved I don't know.
