Pangea Plus and Continents Plus are still my favorites, though gave the Europe map a try and found it alright, and I think Amazon Plus is a nice improvement.

I voted... "They all stink"

I never liked the default map scripts. In world builder, it often takes several loads (maybe around 10) to get one that I like for any given map type. When I use them in game, I am always placed in a very bad area... like in the tundra or at bay with no outlet. They also don't make terrain very well. Hardly ever do I ever find good mountain ranges. Plus, how hard would it be for them to include cultural starts in the scripts? They already have the tags to the civs and city-states under artstyle (European, Asian, Greco-Roman, Middle East, American). What is so wrong with including that option?

Whenever I used the plus scripts... it always throws the CS's out on islands. I would like those a little more, at least, if not for that.

Fractal and continents are still the best, imo.

Although I really enjoy island maps as well now. Large islands sounds interesting. Shuffle might be cool, too.

Yeah, Pangaea Plus and Continents Plus put all (or almost all) the CSs on islands, which makes no sense to me. It defeats the point of them and ruins the maps for me.

I didn't even realize there were new map scripts when I played my first game. I'll play with Europe next game. Is there still use for a navy though or is it sort of like Pangaea?

I think it is the point of the plus scripts to put cs on isles. I like it.

Just used the World Builder to generate some Europe maps, they look awesome but I hate maps that cut off at the end and don't let you cross to the other side. I'm disappointed by that. :(

Playing around with the World Builder and the new maps, I gotta say Hemispheres looks really cool. How come nobody is discussing that? It's basically what I always wanted from a map. Separate continents that are still loosely connected by strings of islands so you can still meet the other civs early on. I like separate continents, but it always bugged me on continents map that an entire game was being played by civs that I had no idea of their existence for much of the game.

Europe at least knew of the existence of China and India for most of history, even if they knew little about them. That's how it should be in my opinion.

Tilted axis is strange, but I think it would be a lot more fun if we had something something future era oceanic focus something, especially with the amount of ice flows lying around.

Europe looks interesting enough and "packed" in a game board format so I could probably up its size to Large.

Not gonna vote because I've only just started playing one so far, but picked boreal for my Celts game to drive home my advantage, seems to be going well so far!

Navy is being a crucial part of my Europe game. The mapscript seems to always generate something that resembles the Mediterranean, with a good number of Civs starting near it, guaranteeing many coastal cities.

I guess navy might be less important for Civs that happen to spawn far away from the ocean, though. On my current game, this is the case for only one Civ.

I guess I should explain that I usually like more room to settle cities. Pan Plus and Cont Plus are great for getting a little extra room.

That said, I can understand easily that some civs (Siam, Greece, Mongolia, Austria) are not thrilled with having the great majority of CSs out in the ocean or just off the coast.

I like having an "age of discovery" in my games where you are finding new lands and meeting new civs. Besides, Europe may have knew about China and India, but they had no clue about the Aztecs, the Native American tribes or Polynesia.

The problem is with the CS's starting all out on islands is it kind of takes away the point of them. They should be in dotted here and there and in between major civs... it causes conflict, etc. With them all out on islands, you don't get as many quests (at least pre-G&K... haven't played the map types with the expansion) and they essentially form a ring around you.

In the end, I generally like the maps that the pluses generate... specifically Continents Plus, I just don't like the fact that WB separates the CS's from the major Civs. I only use them with WB and place the Civs I want.

Fractal is alright and Europe is interesting (kind of like what I tend to do in my created maps. Not enough mountains, though, and North Africa should have some plains along the northern coast... especially around Tunisia.

I'm also a fan of Continents Plus; in addition to giving you more space to spread out (and thus reducing the likelihood of getting sandwiched by aggressive neighbors), there's more of a sense of discovery and exploration when you set out onto the ocean, since you're not just looking for where the other big continent is; there's also all those islands and city-states to discover.

What is this ''shuffle''?

This Europe Map... Any way to make Spain the Spanish' starting position, Great Britain the English' starting position, and Germany the Germans starting position etc etc etc.??

Anyone?

Apparently, it's similar to random, but also randomizes settings such as World Age, Sea Level and Climate.
Not sure if it includes more map options than Random or not. Would like to know that, actually.

I finished my Europe game (fantastic mapscript) and am now playing Tilted Axis. Quite interesting, but the frozen side of the planet doesn't really come much into play. I guess it's a good place to hunt barbarian camps.

My next game will be Hemispheres, I believe.

after all these civ games that has come out over the years, Im still surprised that the game wont come with a real earth map with true starting locations for all civs available. I mean how hard can it be to give us this map?

That's awesome, you really don't know what to expect at all then. Especially if it adds in (some) of the new maptypes.

I agree! I guess we'll just have to wait for the mod... :/
