I'm thinking large islands with Carthage would be a great combination to play, just haven't done it yet. Having habors the second you found a city on an island map is an incrediable advantage.

Playing this combination at the moment - the map is a nice balance between archipelago and continents, and is a nice match for Carthage while not completely ham-stringing the AI (seems that AI is much better now at naval warfare and dealing with island-type maps).

Anyone tried Frontier yet?

My last game was on Frontier. I was a little disappointed that 5 of the 6 civs started on a giant continent crammed in together, while the other civ started on a medium sized continent with the "frontier" area on one half of it.

Why am I the only one who likes Great Plains Plus. I am the only one who voted for the great plains plus so far.

I can't speak for anyone else, but in general, I am not a fan of "all-land" maps such as Great Plains and Amazon. I prefer maps with multiple landmasses and oceans.

I usually prefer Ice age map, because it has the worst relation between space to settle and civs avaliable, which make civs dow each other all the time, and usually there is always a runaway on other continent to make things worse .

I haven't tried many, but I love the Large Islands one

When I previewed a sample large islands map in wb... there were no large islands. Even after a couple times... all the islands were no more than about 3 or 4 hexes big. And that eas on large and huge settings.

This is because the worldbuilder by default doesn't include any civs or city-states (not sure how to change this) when generating maps, and the script generates the number of large islands based on that. You can see in the WB debug console that it's setting the # of large islands to 0 as a result.

You may notice similar discrepancies in other scripts (maybe continents plus type).

You could create a new game and then reveal the map in FireTuner, but then I don't know a good way of re-rolling without going back to the main menu.

On higher dificuty levels I allways use Pangea, simple because you need to meet as many civ's as soon as possible to drain them from their money

I had the same problem. I tried World Builder with Large Islands a dozen times, and all I kept getting were tiny islands. So I had no motive to start a game with it.

This explains it, and I'll have to try Large Islands now. :goodjob:

I haven't been able to see these map types. All I have available are Pangea, Random, Archipelago, Earth and Continents. There may be a couple more in there....but some of those cool looking ones are N/A.
Any ideas why? I am not playing any mods....just the straight up G+K,

Never mind....just saw the post explaining it....

You have to go to "advanced setup" and select map type there. It's a pain, I know... I suppose the developers wanted fewer options for "quick start".

This might be a dumb question, but what's the difference between the normal maps and the "Plus" ones (Amazon, Great Plains)?

Playing around with the World Builder and the new maps, I gotta say Hemispheres looks really cool. How come nobody is discussing that? It's basically what I always wanted from a map. Separate continents that are still loosely connected by strings of islands so you can still meet the other civs early on. I like separate continents, but it always bugged me on continents map that an entire game was being played by civs that I had no idea of their existence for much of the game.

Agreed! I just now got around to trying this script, and it is swiftly becoming one of my favorites. I fear it may be overlooked by many due to the tooltip description, which is unfortunate, because this is a great map to play on. I suggest everyone give it a try, or at least load up WB to generate some maps(the larger, the better looking map, IMHO) to see what they look like. Plus, I would advise turning resources back to standard, unless you like the stategic balance thing.

PerfectWorld3

I know it's not an option, because it's a mod. It makes beautiful maps, though.

Depends on which one, but they tend to have general improvements (IIRC continents plus puts CS on smaller islands)
