Which power plant do you most often use?

I go for hydro plants if possible if not solar and the upgrade all 2 nuclear.

A nuclear plant has a chance to meltdown if the city riots two turns in a row...
That's amazingly useful to know!!! Thanks!

Edit: I always thought it was a constant risk, and only built them in my iron works city out of fear.

I always use hydro or solar (curse my ecological/ethical mind) although they cost more, it always helps to never worry about pollution or a meltdown.
Tip for noobs: NEVER USE A COAL PLANT!! take it from one who learned it the hard way.

On another note: YAY 25th POST!! :bounce:

Hoover dam is clearly the awesomest choice unless you want the 100% of a nuclear plant, and that can be put in select cities.

I do have to disagree with you on the coal plants though. You get them right away. If you have high production cities I suggest building coal plants in those cities. Remember that you can sell them as soon as you finish an alternate plant.

By the way, nuclears don't cause pollution, unless of course you let them melt down, and it's not hard to keep that from happening. The downside to them is that they come late in the game.

90% of the time I'll build Hoover. If I'm going space race, I will build nuke plants for the add'l production.

Well, Coal plant cause a smattering of pollution which eventually turns counter-productive. Even with my usuall worker army cleaning the pollution up, a coal plant's pollution usually makes production worse than before I built it

I don't know how you play, but I generaly have a few extremely high production cities, which don't share tiles with any other cities (or claim any shared tiles), and have lots of grassland and hills. I never wait for hydro plants for these cities.

The key here is that before sanitation there's no way you can utilize more than 12 tiles (besides the center). That leaves a whopping 8 pollutions before you lose production.

IMO I think it would be better to wait for Hoover Dam to finish if it is finished in less than 15 turns. If your not building Hoover Dam, then Coal Plants are a good choice.

You should have many workers, and all the tiles should be improved. That way you can clear all the pollution in one turn. A good amount of workers is about 1.5 to 3 workers per city.

I build Hoover's and then build nuclear wherever I can.

Coal plants in high output cities until I build Hoovers, then disband the coal plants. And if I really need the shields, I'll build nuke plants in the occasional high output city. Never had a problem with a meltdown.
