With the video yesterday about July NFP release date and features, I was curious as to what as of yet unrevealed new feature you are most looking forward to. This poll will close in 58 days; presumably right before the September announcement.

For me it is the new maps. Every game begins and ends with the map, the most important part of a game is good map generation, IMHO.

Presumably the new buildings will be part of the new district, but that is not 100% certain yet, hence separate entries.

TBA stands for To Be Announced.

Boring answer is boring, but: the new Civs. We are still missing Babylon, Byzantium, Portugal, and there's scope for some never-before-seen Civs to be added for the first time, which could have the potential to be a lot of fun.

If I knew for certain that one of the new Game Modes would be plague/disease-focused, I would vote for that. I wouldn't say I am underwhelmed by the two revealed so far - Secret Societies does sound a lot more interesting than Apocalypse Mode - but I found Apocalypse Mode disappointing to play with. I want something that really does change (even in a small way) the way I play the game. Secret Societies does sound like it might do that, but it's too soon to say for sure.

Isn't the new district announced by now, or do I miss something?

The new district was definitely up there on my list, but I'm not too thrilled about what we got. Don't get me wrong, it's probably good for balance, but a "new" district that seems to have a large part of its functionality linked to nerfing something that's already is in the game is hardly something that gets me overly excited.

I guess otherwise my choice would have to be either new wonders, new city states or new great people.

I'm rather uninterested in the new civs, tbh. - sure, I'll play them once, maybe more, but there are still civs from the vanilla pack I've never bothered to finish a game with, so ... and with regards to the new game modes, most a likely to not be used ever by me, although I guess the secret societies has at least some interesting potential.

If I had been asked on sunday I would probably say civs, since Apocalypse mode was such a let down / non-content, and Maya showed some promise in regards to making civs with interesting playstyles. But after seeing Secret Societies and how it will (hopefully/probably) offer a lot of new replay value I had to answer game modes. Please please, let all future games modes be more like Secret Societies that have a real impact in how the game is played and less like Apocalypse.

There is (will be) a second new district in the January 2021 release.

I checked “new game modes”, as those “mini game mechanics” influence my personal gaming experience most.

Close second to this, is another “promised” addition that actually isn’t mentioned in the poll: new (general) units!
Oh gawd, how much do Iong for that trebuchet! I hope, it (and some other units filling gaps) will be introduced sooner rather than later - and if my longing will still be unfulfilled after the 6th NFP addition, I honestly would be quite disappointed.

Between the Government Plaza building that gives the spy bonuses, and now this new district with some buildings that also affect spy success rate, I can't really see that there's room for a district having a solid espionage focus.

Probably the new districts.

New Civs/Leaders i honestly couldn't really care that much about. All the main play-styles already have civ's that work with them. For example 'Tall Science' has Korea, Scotland and now the Maya. While they approach it in a slightly different way you are mainly playing the same style with some slight adjustments. From the brief look we have had at Ethiopia makes it sound like a faith/culture civ. But we already have some of those, one example being Russia.

New game modes are cool but they seem quite fantastical, So great when you are in the mood but not really 'standard play'.

The new districts seem like the biggest changes effecting the play of the base game. I am seriously curious to see how the envoy effects are going to be effected by the diplomatic quarter, either pushing them to be gotten later in the game, or instead just giving the yields to the diplomatic quarter rather than a per district/building basis

new (general) units!

Prepare to be disappointed.

The NFP Road Map doesn’t mention General Units, or for that matter General Buildings or other things of that nature, only Resources, Maps, City States, Great People, Natural and World Wonders and 2x District + Two Buildings. See eg here. There’s also really no suggestion the free updates will include things like units etc. So, not looking good.

I really do hope FXS use the DLC and free updates to flesh out some base game stuff, particularly units and buildings at a minimum. But nothing is really suggesting they will so far, which is very saddening given it’s quite possible NFP ends up the last content drop for Civ. As I’ve said before, I feel we’ve been given ice cream sprinkles when the game was still short another scoop (or half a scoop) of base game content.

I went for the great people. New civs and city states are always nice, but we've got a lot of both already. In contrast, you see most of the same great people every game. Adding more variety here will change things up from game to game whether you're playing a new civ or an old one.

secret spy district (unless tied in with diplomacy) never made much sense to me though I understand why people wanted it.

You are horrible, @acluewithout. :(

I was basing my hope on the “more new content” as well as on the “... and more” on the NFP poster - and on what I think was said in a stream.
Weren’t new units mentioned somewhere?
Or (if they were actually mentioned), were they referring to soothsayers, occultist, vampires and the like? Quite possible.

And now excuse me. I’ll just stick my fingers in my ears and start singing.
*lalalala la la!*
Everything will be fine! :)

Yes, sadly you could be right with that. Which would be too bad, as the game could profit from filling some gaps (like Trebuchets, Rifleman). And there is another thing I don't understand in regard to units: Red Death for example has some cool, "wild" looking modern units - why not "recycling" them as modern day barbarian units?

(I'm aware that the 3rd column is the modern armor model vs. the earlier tank, but I think you get my point anyway...)

I wouldn't remind that kind of reusing - aside from adding atmosphere, it would allow to give the barb units also different stats and abilities, if desired - I'm thinking here especially about the partisan spy mission complaints.

Another example...this guy from the Black Death scenario...

...would make a nice medieval Longswordman in between the classic age Swordman and renaissance Musketman.

To me it's Great Person, it is the only part of the game that never got a big polish (except Admirals) and the 3 per Era rule really suffers with a hot-cakes syndrome that messes up the costs of the GPP. So the new GPP are very exciting, it's also possible that the pack itself may be Renaissance themed, with European city States too.

I wish the poll was what are your top 3 features because I had trouble deciding.
I went with new civs in the end because that's originally what I always look forward too but Secret Societies now has me interested in the next game modes.
