I see her spin natively clock wise.


Here is how you make her go the other way if you are native clockwise: Stare at the heel of the higher up foot, blink quickly if you must, eventually she will go the other way.

To get her back stare at the lower heel and blink

I am assuming that works to get her to go clock wise if you are native counter clock wise.

P.S. I have a theory that her legs don't spin at all., Not confirmed though.


Could just be my mind trying to make sense of it.

Look at the bottom foot and it goes clockwise, look at the higher foot and it goes counter-clockwise. The different parts of the body lend themselves to different interpretations. The upper body is just falling and skipping parts of the circle.

I think the reason that most people voted clockwise (while the article predicted otherwise) is because while scrolling down, it's easier to see her rotating clockwise, while when scrolling up from the bottom, it seems (at least to me) easier to perceive her as rotating counter clockwise. I'd guess the way that the image comes into view plays a part in how it is interpreted.

Her right shoulder seems to be the center of her axis of spin, so I vote she is spinning counterclockwise from her perspective. However if you stare at her shoulders' relative positions, her center of balance seems to partially switch for a moment, due to some z-axis movement. I think then, the brain tries to compensate for that the movement to think she is changing spin direction.

But if I stare really long, then I lose that illusion.

1 and 2 look clockwise, but 3 looks counterclockwise. although a couple times I looked at #2 it looked counterclockwise. although I've had a few drinks too, that may mess up my vision.

At the risk of dredging a dinosaur ...

I can see it either way, and then I realized that spinning clockwise the high arm and leg are the right, and counterclockwise the high arm and leg are the left. Stopping the spin, I see two ambiguous positions where you don't know if you are seeing the front or the back. That allows the illusion.

After seeing the link below, in reality, every position is ambiguous, but we impose one or another with our mind.
