While We Wait: Part 2

@LB- Yes it does. We have no central authority, no real written laws, only mod powers and vigilanteism.

For BirdNES: Yexal- A kind of weird cultural mix, sort of Mesoamerican with Oriental influences, preferably in some sort of upland or mountainous jungle area.

Have to agree with Symphony. In any case, isn't anarchy a complete absence of power? Anything more is a form of government, even if its decentralized (whatever that means :p). Maybe I'm thinking of the strict state of war idea of anarchy... but anyway...

I've never tried a mesoamerican-y culture... I could try that...

@Bird - I was wondering... I'm not as good with complicated rulesets. I will probably start a culture, then abandon it in favor of a religious movement. Would that be okay with you? And if you want help making NPC cultures, I'd love to help with that.

I mean anarchy in the sense that there is no government, not in the sense that people go around whacking others because they can, and brutal gang warfare and violence everywhere.

I'm pretty lenient and flexible with new ways to participate, so I'm sure we can work something out. And I like the idea of help with NPC cultures. :)

Wooow............After reading those last five pages, all I can say is wow :).

Anywho, for Birdnes:
Isililévanóre
Basically Babylonian/Phoenician/MEian in appearance (archicture mostly), very strict and powerful social structure. If a comparision is neededm it'd mostly be a Phoenician style with strong Japanese tendacies, and a mixing of IC-ish nature.

(just to state, I'm willing to compromise on alot of issues to make this interesting.)

I'll get back to updating my NES soon, but I figured I might as well comment here...

Re: NES government:

There still is a part-meritocratic system of village elders and "specialists" (read: witch doctors :p ), so that does make us a primitive tribal community settled on the far northern periphery of the great See'ef'see Empire. Specifics include, on one hand, gradual detirioration of local traditions (also known as "modernisation") and on the other, a constant influx of new people from the mainland. In that way it could also be compared to the early cossack communities, only without the militaristic tendencies due to being generally out of harm's way. Incidentally, there has been at least one attempt to make a NESer the forum moderator, but it didn't work out; I suppose that would've been a few steps closer to Luckymoose's ideal.

Re: BirdNES culture:

I was going to develop it over the course of the NES itself, ofcourse, but my initial idea was a mix of Vedic and Mycenean civilisations. Very much Indo-European, then, at the outset; first with warrior tribes, and then with militarised principalities. Was probably going to develop very differently from both Greece and India, though; how exactly would depend on exact circumstances.

EDIT: As to neighbours, I think that would mean that SwissEmpire and LightFang would fit right in as neighbours and fellow alt-Indo-Europeans (well, "Sardinians" could be leftover natives). IMHO ~Darkening~'s civilisation is indeed such that could be reasonably placed just about anywhere, but probably best off on some islands; that or protected from foreign influences by some other natural features.

Vedic-Mycenean! Outstanding.

Maybe I should open a Forge of Empires Culture thread so folks could begin to sort out their ideas.

Well I was planning on (keyfabing) an island capital, anyway ;). Anywho, I was planning on remiang mostly isolated for a large portion of time, so I don't think I'll have a problem. Through, if wished, I'm still willing to work some issues out. The only thing I'm really set upon right now is the social structure, as it forms most of the basis for the linguistics I've done so far. Other than that, I can change- I just wanted to avoid ending up with roman/greek architecture :).

EDIT: Bird- Isal-i-vah-nore :p. I changed it mostly because I dug around and found a better expression for what I wanted to say.

As said, cultural isolationism plus later commercial imperialism seems to work best for a Japanese-Phoenician civilisation. ;)

Yes exactly, I was totally thinking that. Except maybe they wouldn't have been exiled in the first place and just are obsessed with taking over everybody else by being superior. It's basically the same idea, right? Swiss' country believes in superiority through wealth while we diversify. Generally though in this brave new Sardinia (I'll rename it to something random and maybe even come up with the rudiments of a language system), excessive displays of wealth would probably be a weakness or at least not conductive to superiority because of the sole fact that there are better things you can do with the money.

That would make them seem like a particularily extreme branch of my culture, possibly a distant offshot palced in adverse conditions. Neolithic natives are generally more obsessed with hiding in mountains and waiting for the storms to blow over rather than with enslaving everybody. ;)

Meh- since when did my people become 'exiled' and 'concerned with being superior'? (:p). I do not want Valins- I'm actually using that template to work against :). No republics, no exiles, no endless epochs of war that always end up screwing everybody :). In short, I'm planning on a semi/entierly isolated (well, they do consider theirselves better :)), monarchy with social norms that would make the most strict social conservative weep in fear.

EDIT: I might have been slighty (yeah-who am I kidding?) confused when this was stated.....

I was obviously talking about LightFang, if that's what you were responding to.

monarchy with social norms that would make the most strict social conservative weep in fear.

Not me, I still have fond memories of using my fleet to export all malcontents to tiny nearby islands and then gratutiously destroying the entire fleet to properly isolate Taiwan. Amongst other things.

 Swiss: it wasn't my idea. Josef said Symphony for the reason of keeping the presidency from the leftists North King. It was all funny at the time.

The only colors any of us need to learn to love are red, white, and blue.
