While We Wait: Part 4

Also, it will be an experiment. Is spamming directly related to any feeling you get seeing your postcount go up?

The most notorious of our spammers seem to be in it out of sheer inane infantility, excess of youthful energy and ADHD. ;)

Seriously, though, back when I was a spammer (mostly not here), it never had anything to do with the post-count, it was all about the sensation of posting lots of short things really fast. Warnings and bans are the best and only remedy; they have quite the sobering effect.

Or relying on the concerned person to get bored (that's what happened with me anyway), but that took a year and a half. Not advisable. ;)

We all grow up in the end; the question is, what should be done until then? I guess that short of actually banning them we could harry sp1023 whenever he makes a dubious post, but that will arguably make us as bad as him, at least for my present idea of harrying.

We really need our own forum mod.

Someone - I think it was carmen - tried to bring that last up in the abortive "Give OT more moderators" thread, but it was generally ignored.

As for dogpiling, I say Μολὼν λαβέ!

+5 points for apparently knowing a little Greek.
+2 point for semi-decent reference
-3 points for semi-decent reference lacking an appropriate antecedant.
-2 points for the result of the semi-decent reference resulting in complete destruction, implying your inevitable doom.

Well, you still came out on top, but I still don't understand what we are supposed to come and get :p

And, for a little relevance, why do people fight to keep postcount? Lucky demanded it be kept in one of the "moving" threads, and Abaddon has done the same. I am genuinely curious as to why it matters.

What, the discussion thread? Wasn't it stickied last time too?

a) He posted it in the discussion thread. What the hell did you think he could possibly be talking about?
b) No, it wasn't. I guess that's one good thing that came out of the move already. ;)

  • I just rip things off Wikipedia and foreign-language dictionaries. :p Seriously.
  • It's perfect!
  • I am establishing my person as a mostly-Greek player (at least for now; my NESing portfolio isn't exactly big), and that is a reference to the fact that I'm playing lots of Greeks right now. Yes, I'm self-centered enough to do that.
  • "It doesn't matter if you win or lose - as long as you look really cool doing it!" I don't, but that's what really matters. "Loser talk!"
  • You come and and you take (the territories, wives, children, manufactured goods, ancient national treasures, etc of whatever nation I may be playing that you will be dogpiling, as per Abaddon's post).

Blah blah blah. Finally: The postcount is an ever-growing stat. ;)

The dangers of using Facebook and AIM.

I've discovered facts about several NESers here that I never wanted to know. :(
:p

I propose that the NES board be stripped of +postcount rights to discourage spamming.

Also, it will be an experiment. Is spamming directly related to any feeling you get seeing your postcount go up?
I agree! Death to postcounts!

Some people think that they are more important if their postcount is high.

Has nothing to do with "importance" I know the forum well enough to know that is not true.

I just like to see it grow, but it is not a primary concern. I post when I am bored. An yes, recently I have too much free time, and thus my post-count as risen ~3k in ~3 months.

I also have a wierd thing with numbers, I like it even, or a set point, on a 50, or on a 100 etc. So i'll be posting at random for a few days with no concern, then notice its ~ within 20 of such a number. I then HAVE to get to that number. I have no idea why but it gives some wierd sense of achievement.

If there was no post count here, it would potentially reduce my posts here, but not significantly.
