I don't really understand what you're trying to say here.

You have to understand general development of sociology, science, and culture throughout civilization, and you need to understand basic geography, politics, biology and even military tactics.

When you NES, you are at the same time attempting to figure out how an alternative world functions, and that is to me much more mind-developing than anything else I've ever falled upon.

I prefer to think of myself as outside of the normal success/failure spectrum. Especially in LINES II.

As for the person who was complaining about me telling people what was happening in my city, ah well get over it.... A lot of the rest of the world feel the same way about you Americans, but no we had to listen about your god damn Presidential election for the last year and a half... most other countries get a 30 second spot... Melbourne Cup Day

And isnt Thanksgiving just a dry run for Christmas anyways. You sit down for a meal at Christmas with the extended family, be damned if I was going to do that a month before hand for Thanksgiving in the vain hope I get it right as well... Once a year is enough for me!

See, the funny thing is, you're likely to respond to this post with an anti-American rant. That's funny because I actually was genuinely interested in what was happening in Brisbane. And even the [numerous] topics in this thread that are utterly uninteresting to me, are ones that I recognize other people might be interested in talking about.

I beg to differ, but then again its easy to forget 7/8ths of the world when you take a very Amero-centric view as you yourself do.

For example in Australia we get perhaps 20 minutes of International news on a hour long news program or 33.3% (Domestic 40%, Sport 25% make up the other two major categories) I have read in Time Magazine (which I buy and read on a regular basis) that in most cases its 5% of the news that Americans get is from overseas.

Now I am willing to admit that most American nesers are a cut abover the average American are a little bit more knowledgeable about the world. But the point I was trying to make Moose is to expect a non-American to know, or as North King has pointed out 'to look up' a national holiday of the United States, then why shouldn't the same logic be used when its another nation's national holidays.

Just be thankful I wont make you try and find out when those days are and all I ask that people provide me with the same respect, because that's what it ultimatley is about...

You've been whining about our discussions of the Presidential election, which you don't have to look at. I don't see how it's different.

We get less international news, because the majority of the News in the world comes from within our own nation. Other news pops up very frequently if you switch between various news stations. American holidays are more important as our culture is everywhere and most nations understand the concept of a lot of our holidays. I rarely ever hear international awareness for Australian holidays.

Yes but that does leave 25% of a significant number of Nesers who are not American and thus are not expected to know automatically when Thanksgiving is... Especially as like Easter it changes dates I believe, this makes it more interesting. What I am saying is that I would not expect you to look up on of my Australian holidays, why should I have to look up Thanksgiving or any other American holiday.

I wasn't whining about your discussion about the Presidential eleciton, i was making a comparison, very diffrent to whining, my friend. The fact that I was interested and my signature points out I think America made the better choice, obvsiously doesn't mean much to some people, namely you.

What I did have a problem was with people like Luckymoose saying that who cares about the storm, when all he could talk about for the last few weeks was how McCain was the second coming, (yes many conversations on MSN) yet they dont see the double standards in what they have said themselves.

And finally as for the tounge in cheek humour not being evident, ah well perhaps its lost in translation... There have been many times where I have been reminded that whats funny to me may actually upset you Americans and vicea versa.

Fanny packs in Australia is a derogatory term, stemming from the fact that fanny = vagina in the non-North American English speaking world.

Thongs however are something you wear on your feet (you would call them flip-flops) not a piece of underwear. Pubs have signs saying No Thongs Allowed.... it was really funny when an American girlfriend of my wife asked me one night 'How do they check, do they ask you to pull down your skirt or something?'

I couldnt help but to laugh.... But I think you may get where I am coming from now.
