While We Wait: Part 6

Well, then I still have things to learn.
You always have things to learn. Everybody does.

This - reinforcement, as you call it - feels to me as it is a complete makeover,
actually, but I agree that is only an enforcement at some level.
Confirmation bias? :p
lord_joakim said:
I must add, though, that when NESers design the Alt-historical or Otherworld nations they do, thoughts are always the base of these nations.
I don't really understand what you're trying to say here.
lord_joakim said:
You have to understand general development of sociology, science, and culture throughout civilization, and you need to understand basic geography, politics, biology and even military tactics.
lord_joakim said:
When you NES, you are at the same time attempting to figure out how an alternative world functions, and that is to me much more mind-developing than anything else I've ever falled upon.
I guess it depends on what your RL life is like, gell?
lord_joakim said:
Still, you guys rock :p
Stop talking about NESers like you aren't one. Humility is nice, but seriously, you're not bad at this game.
lord_joakim said:
I actually think that NESers in general are more sophisticated than other people on the internet. (I look at you, OT.)
Oh, I don't know. Lots of people on the OT are plenty intelligent and sophisticated. They just like to screw around a lot, too.
lord_joakim said:
And the reason why I don't actually like OT is that most people in there either only post for the sake of posting (You know, PC),
:shifty:

and while a few are smart, some have an tendency to dissapoint me a bit compared to their profession or reputation.
How do you mean?
Piatrata, Jipha, and Isara are fairly interesting. Jipha and Isara are cool because of the cultures that make up their populations.

Or you could always make some gigantic empire in the shroud and stomp me into paste when I least expect it. :p
Spoiler Yeah. :
spanish_inquisition.jpg

Dachs I really want your NES back.
After the Titanomachia is finished. :p

Even if I've got the money?

The only chance I ever had was with the Hu'ut, which is turning out to be a so-so. If my plans succeed, I will feel as if I am a proper NESer. If they don't... Well, then I still have things to learn.

Why? Just because you fail doesn't mean you're not a proper NESer. I mean, nobody says jalapeno_dude is a failure because his first country in LINESII basically died in a huge explosion :p

It's not what happens, but how it happened that matters.

I prefer to think of myself as outside of the normal success/failure spectrum. Especially in LINES II. :p

You still have plenty of chance. Especially if you send orders. :p

Being too lazy to check, are there any good NESes open that's about the complexity of NES2 VI or so?

This is the same global warming, I presume, that just had flurries hit the states of Virginia and North Carolina this morning? When snow usually doesn't come in any way, shape, or form until after Thanksgiving? :p

I would refer you to the sunspot cycle and the fact that we're near the 11-year low in terms of activity.

Thanksgiving is not an acceptable date for me to work from.

As for the person who was complaining about me telling people what was happening in my city, ah well get over it.... A lot of the rest of the world feel the same way about you Americans, but no we had to listen about your god damn Presidential election for the last year and a half... most other countries get a 30 second spot... What the fark?

What happened to Mrpwn3r, Swissempire, honzas, and that other NESer who was goo but had like 50 posts?

All foreigners must learn American holidays.

I will once you learn the dates for the following:

Australia Day
ANZAC Day
Labour Day
Queen's Birthday
Melbourne Cup Day

And isnt Thanksgiving just a dry run for Christmas anyways. You sit down for a meal at Christmas with the extended family, be damned if I was going to do that a month before hand for Thanksgiving in the vain hope I get it right as well... Once a year is enough for me!

Nah, Australia is highly unimportant and no one really cares. On the other hand, our president gets holidays in other countries. We are better, you don't matter.

Now that's just silly. I don't celebrate Easter, but I can recognize that it exists. Also, if you start dating things around ANZAC day or something similar, I will look it up to know what you're talking about rather than complain.

The importance of the two events is somewhat different.

Who heads nation with largest economy and most advanced military >> What happens to a city of two million people.

See, the funny thing is, you're likely to respond to this post with an anti-American rant. That's funny because I actually was genuinely interested in what was happening in Brisbane. And even the [numerous] topics in this thread that are utterly uninteresting to me, are ones that I recognize other people might be interested in talking about.

Bottom line is, why the hell are you lashing out at people when no one complained about your newspost? Dachs merely said it was funny you were holding a double-standard, which is true.

@Supermath: Not from the same era as NES2 IV.

Actually I was just highlighting the inequities of television reporting... thanks for being interested.

And I wasnt lashing out, what you seem to forget is that the Australian sense of humour is very tounge in cheek, sometimes I think people take what I say way to literally and dont see that I am just making observations that arent designed to 'lash out at people'

I wasnt even holding a double standard. I didnt put this on the nightly news, I didnt make anyone read what I posted, I just posted for those, like yourself, who may be interested. I simply dont see the double standard. I dont expect people to care, I give them the option to.... I hope you see the diffrence in that, my friend.

Having said that I still think Thanksgiving is unacceptable :p but I do know its towards the end of November sometime, and its really just a gripe when its much easier just to say November 26th or whatever, to stop people from having to look it up, just as much as how I would not expect you to know, or make you look up when 'Brisbane Show Day' was.

I beg to differ, but then again its easy to forget 7/8ths of the world when you take a very Amero-centric view as you yourself do.

For example in Australia we get perhaps 20 minutes of International news on a hour long news program or 33.3% (Domestic 40%, Sport 25% make up the other two major categories) I have read in Time Magazine (which I buy and read on a regular basis) that in most cases its 5% of the news that Americans get is from overseas.

Now I am willing to admit that most American nesers are a cut abover the average American are a little bit more knowledgeable about the world. But the point I was trying to make Moose is to expect a non-American to know, or as North King has pointed out 'to look up' a national holiday of the United States, then why shouldn't the same logic be used when its another nation's national holidays.

Just be thankful I wont make you try and find out when those days are and all I ask that people provide me with the same respect, because that's what it ultimatley is about...

I don't really care about era, as long as it's not a fresh start.

Thar's your problem.

That's really not evident at all.

You've been whining about our discussions of the Presidential election, which you don't have to look at. I don't see how it's different.

Thanksgiving is pretty commonly known, and at least 3/4ths of the NESing forum is American.

We get less international news, because the majority of the News in the world comes from within our own nation. Other news pops up very frequently if you switch between various news stations. American holidays are more important as our culture is everywhere and most nations understand the concept of a lot of our holidays. I rarely ever hear international awareness for Australian holidays.

Yes but that does leave 25% of a significant number of Nesers who are not American and thus are not expected to know automatically when Thanksgiving is... Especially as like Easter it changes dates I believe, this makes it more interesting. What I am saying is that I would not expect you to look up on of my Australian holidays, why should I have to look up Thanksgiving or any other American holiday.

I wasn't whining about your discussion about the Presidential eleciton, i was making a comparison, very diffrent to whining, my friend. The fact that I was interested and my signature points out I think America made the better choice, obvsiously doesn't mean much to some people, namely you.

What I did have a problem was with people like Luckymoose saying that who cares about the storm, when all he could talk about for the last few weeks was how McCain was the second coming, (yes many conversations on MSN) yet they dont see the double standards in what they have said themselves.

And finally as for the tounge in cheek humour not being evident, ah well perhaps its lost in translation... There have been many times where I have been reminded that whats funny to me may actually upset you Americans and vicea versa.

Fanny packs in Australia is a derogatory term, stemming from the fact that fanny = vagina in the non-North American English speaking world.

Thongs however are something you wear on your feet (you would call them flip-flops) not a piece of underwear. Pubs have signs saying No Thongs Allowed.... it was really funny when an American girlfriend of my wife asked me one night 'How do they check, do they ask you to pull down your skirt or something?'

I couldnt help but to laugh.... But I think you may get where I am coming from now.
