Seeing the Stickshift or manual thread made me think.

What are your driving habits ?

Ill start!

I consider myself a good driver. I have 10 years of experience behind the wheel and I usually drive real safe.

In my morning drive to work i'm mellow I drive at 70 - 80 km/h and I hug the right lane on the freeway, but when I come back from work I drive fast and I tailgate slowpokes in the left lane and I drive around 120 - 130 km/h. I don't zig-zag from lane to lane I don't flash my highbeams lights and I never ever use the horn.
If someone tailgates me I slow down until the guy behind me gets some distance between me and him.
If my kid is in the car I take extra care in my driving and I'm super safe!

Reminder : Montreal is known in Canada as the capital of reckless drivers, Tailgating, people cutting people off and drivers with no courtesy.

So what about you guys?

I don't drive, but I have alot of experience as a passenger. Most of my lifts are from my 18 year old freinds, so my passenger habits tend to be holding on to anything secured and occasionally fearing for my life.

I really, really dislike when people tailgate. Especially when you're driving the speed limit. I saw a car long ago with a sticker on the back window of a monkey saying: "Kiss my @$$."

Ever since then I've wanted one of these.

I've not been driving for a long time but when driving I like to keep space between me and other cars and make things around me seem more simple.

It sucks a lot to make a silly little mistake you'll remember for a lot of time.

I had a small fender bender with a parked car when I was 18

Last Year a guy ran a red light and smashed my car!

I admit to some minor speeding -- enough to stay with the traffic flow: 5-10mph above the posted limit. The last accident I was in was a year -and-a-half ago, as I slowed down for a red light, the guy behind me had a coughing fit, and his foot slipped off the brake onto the gas. Bang! (His car was totalled. I spent about $3 for splices for where his license plate sliced through the wires to my taillights. I drive a tank. )

ah yes the fun of getting into one of the car with your friends, i often wonder whether ill ever get out again. Though i do have one mate who drives at 2mph below the speed limit at all times

I drive fast on the highway and slow in the city. I only have two things for the other drivers: follow the rules of the road and stay out of the left lane if you're not driving faster than people in the center and on the right. I can't stand the people who drive 100 km/h in the left lane of the highway because "it's the limit". Go drive the limit in the middle lane and let me and the others go through.

About 2 hours ago I was doing 145mph down a 3 lane highway. And 20 min before that I hit 100 on a twisty back road with a speed limit of 35mph. Extrapulate what you will from that but I have no speeding tickets nor crashes on my record. I've been driving for 14 years and I also drive on a closed track most weekends so I have practice.

About 2 hours ago I was doing 145mph down a 3 lane highway. And 20 min before that I hit 100 on a twisty back road with a speed limit of 35mph. Extrapulate what you will from that but I have no speeding tickets nor crashes on my record. I've been driving for 14 years and I also drive on a closed track most weekends so I have practice.

All I can say to that is: God be with you.

And I don't drive, so I can't say what my driving style is.

Lemme guess, the BW Parkway? I've hit 115 in my Saturn SL-2 before i caught up with traffic again.
Acutally, such speeds are feasable on the drive to OC.
I have to admit, before i read your post, I was going to describe mine in the same words, almost identical. But, you said it for me, except that I've been driving for like two years. Same record, though, and no practice for me

Wow, I was gonna come clean and say that I am a pretty bad driver and also quite a reckless one. But compared to some posters (hint Skidistic) I am a safe driver.

I always drive the speed limit or within 5 mph of it. I don't necesarily consider myself a "good" driver, but I do consider myself reasonable. I'm the sort that tries to minimize the amount of braking I do by driving slowly enough to catch lights in between reds or using the engine to slow the car when I can (since both of our vehicles are automatic, that isn't always an option).

I'm generally very moderated about how I respond to other drivers but tailgaiting particularly upsets me. When driving my Caprice and don't have my son inside (a pretty rare occurence) I'm the sort that will slam the brakes on tailgaters because I think 3800 pounds of metal would teach them a lesson. Being I drive in town at speeds of less than 35 MPH, I'm guessing no fatalities or serious injuries would result from such a collision, but still, this behaviour has yet to actually result in an collision.

50 between Annapolis and Bowie. I had to get off at the 301 exit.

I dont drive like this everyday.

It depends, if your driving the limit in the left lane and there's room in the center lane, get the hell out of there! Then you deserve to be tailgated.

If you follow traffic in the left lane and there's people in front of you, then the tailgater should ki$$ your a$$.

Why does one's presence in a lane other than the far right negate the requirement to drive at the legal speed limit?

In many states, there is no legal requirement to "get the hell out" of the left lane when not passing. It is NOT necesarily safer in the right lane--it is safer to change lanes only when absolutely necessary.

Besides, I have 7 years of experience. I consider myself a good driver but others could consider me an awfull driver I tailgate slowmoes that drive below 120 in the left lane and such. During winter I drift most of my corners. But I'm not the kind to put money and ornaments on my car, no mags no skirt just plain stock as I like it.

It's a good thing for me and my wallet that my 1991 honda civic doesn't go higher then 135 km/h. (she could but I think it's a little to much for her). I especially like to take curvs as fast as i can.

@Raisin and DeLorimier: Two curvs in Montreal,
-the one when your on Decarie and you merge on the 720 east. Awesome, plus you got 2 lanes so you can pass slow cars.
- The "S" when your on the 40 west bound to get on Decarie, especially during the night when there's no one on the road. (which doesn't happen often)

Some things aren't dictated by the law, like common sence and courtesy. Plus, the left lane is legally the passing lane, so if your not passing, you shouldn't be in it. Why go in the left lane when you'v got 2 other lanes that are as good and that let you drive the same way? If only to piss off the faster drivers?
