White lines in graphics / smear on resources

Good to see they responded.

I tried the deleting cache, etc, and it didn't work for me either.

Stuck until they fix it as I can't upgrade my graphic files any further.

Unfortunately, the Intel Express chipset has been below our min-spec since release. HOWEVER, that has not stopped some people from being able to play, so we're talking to Intel about possible solutions to this.

Thanks, for feedback. I can wait, I suppose.

ok i updated my video driver to intels latest and i am still getting the lines and graphic problems. What to do next?

The_J,
You suggested I run in DX11 rather than DX9. Doing this solves the problems with the lines across the screen but introduces a different problem with extreme greying out during scrolling, even when using low resolutions. So, either way the game is unplayable for me.
I have given up on Civ 5 now, but thanks, anyway.

I too get the same "smear" but with units. I'm running DX9 just to play the game right now. Also getting the old "shadow of a unit in it's old attack location" bug. Updated driver does not allow me to run DX11 (all at high settings) with ease like I was before. Posted new file in other thread.

I run civ 5 on my laptop and i know the intel chipset isn't updatable because I checked with the site on Intel for the latest update. The update is 2 years old. So guess I can't play the game right now until the programmers update the patch. I think the program changse should not be focusing on the most uptodate sysems to run the game.

Good programmers should optimize the program to run on the most minimum systems to ensure the quality is there. Shame to have to upgrade a computer for $ 1500 or more to run a $30 dollar game.

The blame should not be placed on Intel but on the gamer company for programming something that isn't efficient.

Do hope changes come soon!!! for a new patch.

For those who just found this thread:

1. Update your graphics drivers, if you can, helped a lot of people here
2. If your graphics drivers are up to date, or you can't update any further than you are now, then you are hosed until their is a new patch to fix the old "patch."

We currently do not have any workarounds.

[My original post asked you about Intel drivers and how the Intel site said the I should only install the drivers from my manufacturers website (HP in my case). Then you said...]

Ignore that. They are in general certainly right, but we probably cannot fix this in another way.

I haven't done it yet because I'm afraid to scerw up my computer. I've been playing G&K in Strategic View mode and it has been working fine, but I want to play regular screen again. So my question is this: If I follow your directions and install the Intel drivers, and it DOESN'T help my graphics problems, can I uninstall the drivers and go back to the ones I have right now (just so I don't mess up anything)?

I'm leery of using those Intel drivers because I can't afford for my laptop to stop working.

In general there should be nothing which prevents that. You should be able to uninstall the newer one and install the older one, if you really have to.

Since you say you can't afford that your laptop is not functional for some time, I recommend that you look up how to start your Windows version in "safe mode" before.
Because there is the (very small) possibility that the new driver might break something, and the safe mode will allow you to start Windows without the new driver and get rid of it in this mode. This is only for the case that you cannot uninstall the new driver in the normal mode. On average you should be able to uninstall it without going through this.
This is not likely to be necessary, but you should know how to do it in the case you need it.

When I have tried to play this week, resources like sheep stretch like bars across the screen, rendering the game unplayable.

Moderator Action: Threads merged.

Update the drivers of your graphics card, then the problem should (hopefully) be gone.

I updated my driver, but I'm still having the same problem.

In addition, 2K support suggested that I verify my steam cache. I did so, and got the message "2 files failed to validate and will be reacquired." I don't know if there was something else I was supposed to do, because I am still having the same problem.

OK, the lines go away if I play the game in DirectX 9.

I'm forced to play DX9 untill some programmer gets the new "patch" out to fix this problem. Only other problem is after about 20 turns my entire graphics goes bonkers. Red and white checkers and greay areas and it's all screwed up. At this point i stop play for the night. I have the LATEST Intel drivers. I'll just have to wait.

Can't tell whether my graphics issue is the same, but the descriptions seem similar.

Post-Fall patch and pre-hotfix, I was able to play DX11 on both my home rig (fairly high-end graphics) and my traveling laptop (running low/minimum graphics). Hotfix came out while I'm traveling (happy Turkey Day to all!), and now I can't play DX11 on the lower-end laptop because someone has overlayed ugly colored multi-lane superhighways (or maybe stacks of steel rebar?) across my map. Screenshot attached, but the graphics bug applies whether I'm loading a large save or starting a new game. Runs fine in strategic view and in DX9, but I don't care for either.

Won't be able to try it on my home rig until Sunday, but would be nice to have a solution to this.

I'll try updating my graphics drivers (again) and will edit my post if that fixes anything.

EDIT: Latest Intel graphics driver seems to have fixed my smeared "graphic superhighways" issue in DX11. I'll report back if my optimism is premature.

This is very disappointing. The game WAS a great game. Now it's just a mediocre game. I was going to pick up Gods and Kings, but I'm not sure if I'm going to waste my time, unless they fix this soon.

With yesterdays patch, my game with G&K is working ok again.
