Who else is refraining from hanging out in Civ forums?

We hear a lot about the "silent majority" of players who are enjoying Civ 5. I've only posted a few things here and there, because basically, I can't stand all the negativity. The complaints that people have seemed either A) unfounded or B) "it's not Civ 4". It's hard to even have an intelligent debate with these people because of their strong bias. They throw around words like "2k fanboy" (not even realizing the 2k is the publisher, Firaxis is the developer) whenever someone says they are enjoying the game.

If most players are anything like me, they are simply waiting for all the whiners to get bored of ranting and just move on so we can have a laidback, fun community that plays this fun game.

I am the silent majority and I'm staying silent until it's worth talking about Civ again.

Well, I think that Civilization 5 does many things right. But I think that it doesn't take a harsh critic to realize that the game was released with flaws. Yes, maybe there is a silent majority out there, but there sure are a lot of "die hard" civilization players that seem quite upset over a few things, and from what I have seen, rightly so.

That said, I'm enjoying Civ 5 enough to be playing it regularly. But as the game is now, I am not sure if I will be as addicted to it as I was Civ 4. I do believe that once a few add-ons (like Warlords and Beyond the Sword) come out, you'll see Civ 5 get much better and the "die hard" fans much happier.

So, my personal take on the matter is: hold out, enjoy the game as it is now (flawed, yes, but not bad really) and wait for the perfected version which will eventually be released.

This debate is forming into a very similar maelstorm as Creationism vs Atheism forums.

I'm a Firaxis fanboy, btw. :p

Bingo! My thoughts exactly. I'm waiting for 2 things: for the haters to move on and for the game to get patched. In the mean time, I'm having great fun with it.

It's not only ciV but all games, people who like the game rarely post a thread "i like this game" because it's rather pointless.
The Generel Discussions forum is probably not the best place to search for people enjoying the game. Try looking in Strategy/Modding/Gotm/Hof/Story forum :)

Awesome, thanks for the advice.

I think that the main forum is getting overwhelmed with the many posts from people expressing their opinions of Civ V and I remember the same happening when other version were released. It does settle down after a while.
I do like what they have done over at these forums...

http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=469

...there you can see two of the sticky threads are titled...

The Official ETW Criticism Thread

and

The Official ETW Praise Thread

(To help clear up the forum, so threads stay on the front page for longer, I'm going to start a series of general threads for common thread topics. Older threads will be left alone, or closed if they're no longer needed, but newer threads will be moved into these general threads.

This is the thread for praising Empire: Total War. If you want to express your appreciation of the game, do it here.)

It might have been worthy of consideration to have something similar here..?
I am thoroughly enjoying Civ V but perhaps it should have been called Civ "Marmite" - maybe not many people will understand that one ;)

IMHO this is mostly due to the immense success of Civ4 and its expansions. So if you change something people really like, you're bound to get this reaction. Even if the changes are better long term given some time and a few more patches (and expansions).

On the other hand, if there were few changes, people would claim it's a rip off, that it should have been an expansion and not a sequel etc. So trying to make a sequel to a massive title such as Civ4 you will get this reaction one way or another.

And now people seem to even fabricate "game breaking issues" just to be able to jump on the hate-bandwagon with some new stuff ("oh my god, they've slightly overpowered Ghandi in cultural games, the food resources yield too little and the Persian guy is speaking the wrong language - the game is totally ruined!").

I must concur, I would like to discuss the game without all the negativity and bad vibe. I was think that they should just create a rage forum where all the haters can whine there.

I find the atmosphere in the strategy sub forum much less vitriolic. I suggest we all go there and let the boring folk stay here to scream until they hopefully, eventually, just pass out.

Great idea! The atmosphere is really nice there. But I still think we should write a petition of some sorts to create a 'support & whine' sub-forum so that we can clean the place of the filth xD

Another thing to keep in mind is that "diehard" fans of previous versions may not become the "diehard" fans of this version. If you really loved Civ 4 (like many people on this forum), and Civ 5 is so different then it makes sense that there will be people left behind who can continue playing Civ 4 and continue loving it and that's fine.

So yes, hopefully, the only people left on this forum will be those who are committed to enjoying the game, helping others and helping improve the game as well. Until then we'll just have to sit tight and enjoy all the new shinyness of civ 5 for now!

I don't want to discuss the game just yet, I don't even have the game !

So instead I sit here and read NEG and POS posts over and over, and getting more confused by the minute. :crazyeye:

I believe the game has uber potential.
I believe it has bugs and flaws just like every other game released in the last 2 year.
I believe we should be thankful and patient that we even get patches, i remember buying games when the internet was nonexistant and what you got was what you got!
I believe they will get most the bugs fixed and what they lack in fixing will be corrected by the huge and talented modding comunity

I am however very disapointed in the lack of management and skill needed. My friend who has never been able to grasp the previous versions of Civ and all its concepts is now an above average player. Why? because the computer does most of the work for him. He builds unit after unit and goes to war, he sets his workers to auto, his cities to auto and dominates most maps. This is not a good thing and hopefully it can be fixed with patches and mods because the one thing i loved about civ since the first day it came out what seems like 100 years ago was that it made me think. This version doesnt seem to do that.

however i do have faith and i will quietly wait it out and if it doesnt get fixed i will buy civ 6 and 7 and 8 and so on no matter how bad they are. i always have and i always will.

I don't post much but I don't care about the negativity, I am rather puzzled. Some people are missing all the great points of Civ5 and focusing on the flaws. It's quite hilarious to read some posts, but I guess this is what you get when people are passionate about something :D

It was the same with Civ3 and Civ4, it will last few weeks, then people will start discussing strategies, mods, ideas, ecc.

The most funny part is that most of the complains about Civ5 also apply to Civ4, but the critics often fail to notice that :)

I really don't like people who talk about a 'silent majority', no matter if they are speaking in favour of or against my views.

It didn't work for Richard Nixon. It STILL. Doesn't. Work.

I can't help replying from time to time to those negative threads. I know that I can't change the opnions of the thread starters because they seem to be immune to discussion and balanced critical thinking.

However, if nobody replies, visitors who come to the forum to see if Civ5 is worth buying could get the impression that it is the worst game ever released.
