Obviously, Mao was the best-known Chinese character. But I did not voted for him...

Civciv5, you've spelt 'Chiang Kai-shek' wrong.

And 'Emperor' should be added after 'Hongwu', 'Yongle', 'Kangxi' and 'Qianglong' as they are only era names, eg.

1500 A.D. is the year 13 of Hongzhi, during the reign of Hongzhi Emperor.

Why does Wu Zetian make this list?
Because Civciv5 is an Equal Opportunity Employer, obviously.
Wu Zetian was the only woman in China's history to achieve the title "empress regnant".She builded the Giant Wild Goose Pagoda. And did many good things for her country. She choosed chancellors of abilities and not of status. She provided a better equality.I know she did not expand the Chinese empire to its greatest extent, but she did many good things. She is at least so important as Elizabeth I or Catherine II.

?Is this a joke, well this thread is NOT a joke.
This is serious,if you can't be serious simply go away.
So the serious people can resume talking.

Nobody has yet taken this thread seriously. These are silly threads built on silly premises. I am just responding in kind.

The Chinese empire did not expand since her husband Tang Gaozong, had died.

Besides, she is very ruthless and cruel, she killed numerous of people against her, she trusted subjects who propose harsh punishments. She has set up foundations of the glorious period of middle Tang, but there are lots of criticism about her during her reign. To be honest, she had merit accomplishments.

One of the reason that she was put in this poll is that she was a civilization leader of the Civilization V ;) [jokking]. In fact, she had been an admired beautiful consort of Gaozong, she became empress regnant in her age of 66, and rested in peace in 81, I don't think that she looked beautiful at 66 at all, do you agree?

Wu Zetian was the official empress regnant when she was 65. But she started reigning China when she was 40,through puppet emperors, but she reigned de facto.

... to yourself?

Since you put Yu on the list, who is legendary and presumably had some sort of super powers given the account of his reign, I would vote for him.

Well, they WERE not puppet emperors, actually, they were her husband who was fatally ill and sons (those who had escaped from her murder).

If according to your theory, there are lots of empress regnent (de facto) in Chinese history...:D Since there are a bunch of consorts and ex-consorts bring up princes as emperors, and force emperors (de jure) to abdicate.

Who is Yu?

EDIT: I remembered.

you mean, jiang jieshi?

Clearly it was Yu, who totally existed.

EDIT: What do you mean by greatest, what are your criteria, and who do you suggest is the greatest Chinese leader?

Kublai? :p

Well, Mao's a write-off, Chiang was sorta a Soviet hostage, and most of what I know about Huangdi is through reputation alone.

I don't have enough familiarity with Chinese history to vote. :undecide:
