i like the orbis fort system and the fall further master rancher/master smithy for buying certain items, though i also like rife equipment menu. i don't like or prefer one system over the other and im glad to be able to choose one or the other by playing one or the other. i like wild mana mod because it has about a billion features to enable/disable in the options screen - a great erebus feel, a traditional erebus spellcasting system and a lot of depth in it's features. i do like master of mana but the restriction of how building improvements screws you - it feels like it doesn't affect the AI much who doesn't know how to use it and gets enough gold anyway.

erebus mods are wonderful and i can't wait for Colonization of Erebus Mod where the colonist civ's awaken from the age of ice to settle the fertile lands and the native civ's seek to hold their lands. natives such as doveillo and colonists such as amurites. oh, i forgot it isn't going to happen. i was just thinking how fun Civ5 erebus would be.

have you actually tried it...? IMO, MoM has the most competitive AI atm.

Of course I've tried it (just finished a very long 1.3 game). It may have the "best" AI, but it still has such an enormously long way to go before the AI can be called competitive. Right now, the AI in MoM wins through brute force (sheer numbers) and built in advantages (cheating) rather than actually using the many neat features that MoM has added.

the AI cheats in each and every CIV game with the exact amount of cheating depending on the difficulty level so this is not a MoM feature

Germanfag hier (< on purpose)

I still play a game from time to time. I thought that Elemental could change it, but hell no.
I play several FFH related "games" - from time to time even vanilla (with more naval AI).
But mostly I'm tending towards the modmods.
Each of them nice due either AI, stability or sheer content.
All in all I'd prefer RifE if I had to choose.

Atm I'm enjoying Orbis and MoM with at least one game per month.

But to be honest: I can't wait until RifE 1.4 will finally be released in 2034 :(
RifE is great, but has some serious CtD issues atm.
And I simply can't wait to see the new things, merged things (naval AI f.e.), balanced things (Grigori with the journey is hilarious) and the modmodmod things (Saila and especially Keepers of Noggormotha due early barbwipes happening to at least two civs each game)

at least this wish has come to an end... sadly...

I stumbled upon the said topic on the RifE Forums just a few minutes after that post.
And I felt sad and stupid and almost made a rage comic about :(

I doubt, that RifE was getting less attention, but it changed more to some kind of lurking.
I for myself know four other guys and two girls even, who where waiting as hell for 1.4 but silently.

Maybe one day somebody will release it :(
VtM: Bloodlines was kinda polished and finished almost 8 years after the release.
Maybe this is the fate of RifE? :cringe:

Honestly, it's an issue of becoming disinterested with FfH. We cannot change the things that we wish to change, since it's not our setting; I wouldn't feel right doing it. This means we're limited to shuffling things around, trying to implement mechanics we like without changing the civs too much, and only adding new civs, never removing old. There's no more room for expansion in FfH, there are too many civs with too tight a focus on a specific style of gameplay.

None of us are done modding, and we are in the process of creating a new mod, but most of us are done with FfH modding.

Well... I understand that this is kinda limiting in terms of creativity.
But on the other hand: That's what made RifE so special.
Every Civ fitted in well (although we all know, from time to time, some needed polish) and made every new game with another civ like a whole new game (f.e. Illians compared to D'tesh compared to Scions, a.s.o.)
It adds and changes a hundred of things, but still the whole game feels like FfH.
This is something most people wouldn't achieve.
RifE always gave my that feeling of playing a highly pimped up FfH, improving things beyond one thought it could be done, without ever watering down the gameplay.

A mod, where there are ~eights civs and they all can perform well on almost all aspects of the game would feel like watering down (like vanilla CIV IV, just with more fancy stuff)

well as for me :
i liked wild mana a lot. but then it went to MOM and I didn't understand anymore the magic system.
so I switched to RifE.
I'm a big RifE player.. considering my limited play time.

second is Orbis, for the stability and fun.

third is MOM, I always come back to MOM for a game or two to see if the mechanics changed ... but most time I don't try a second game.

My 3 last games were RifE, the next will be MOM beta 1.4.

After that I think I'll try more naval AI as I never tried it yet.
On the other hand it is more than 2 years I haven't played a vanilla FFH game. :D

I can't think of any reason to play vanilla FfH without Tholal's "more naval AI". The only difference you will ever notice is that it functions better than vanilla (fewer crashes, an AI which seems to understand some of the essential mechanics, etc.). Content-wise, there were no changes. That's why some people have taken to calling it the unofficial "patch o".

RifE is far and away my preferred mod. Though there are some balancing issues. Such as: Is there any reason to play as a civ other than Legion of D'Tesh?

Even so it's a blast to play with any and all civs in RifE. I've never been a fan of playing on huge maps but this modmod makes me actually enjoy it.

MoM is my favourite. Rife always crashes, far away from stable.

Stability is a big issue with RIFE, MoM has crashed only once on me, but I have not played as many hotseat games yet so I'm not sure if that is just single player stability or not. But it's nice not having to fear the crash that cannot be passed that eventually comes to about half of the RIFE games.

The final update will not only fix any and all ctd's Snarko was able to find, he's also massively sped up the game. He's done amazing things. :)

RIFE is also quite nice too.. i'm glad its getting one last update. civ5 sucks so bad, a fella needs these good civ4 mods:king:

Going back at least a year before the move to BtS, I have only played standard versions of FfH for less than a week after each new release. After that I always started modding at least a couple minor things.

I still play my modmod of FfH frequently. (Speaking of which, I believe I'll be releasing another update of it within a day.)
