This is the second time this has happened to me. I log in and I can't post because I'm not a regestired user, or somethimg. I had to request password sent to me in my email. Why? I usually always enter the site and post right away with no trouble. But now, for the SECOND time, I could not. I don't keep password handy because i never needed it. But apparently, someone doesn't like me. I'l bet now I'll also get a million emails again about responses to threads I've "subscribed" to. i love this site and am always learning new things about how to improve my gameplay here, but I'd really like to know why I'm being treated like a nobody again. Does anybody know what's going on here?

Probably something you did. It's all your fault. The rest of us don't have that problem. ;) kidding. . .

Seriously, I had this problme a couple of weeks ago. I just logged back in, and have been okay since. Probably something got screwed up somewhere with a cookie. I know when my wife purges our cookies I have to relog in. Perhaps this happened?

Anyways, like I said, this did happen to me a couple of weeks ago, but I haven't had problems since.

That's it, now. I can't even post a quick reply like I usually always do. i get a microsoft internet explorer window that says

You can disable thread subsrciptions in user CP, and you can change you password to something more memorable, I suggest, "biggiefries" for your passwod.

And occasionally you get error messages when you try to post, happens to all of us, it'll work when you try it next time.

Try clearing your cashe. Click on Tools/Internet Optoins, and in the middle pane, click on clear files. This won't hurt, and maybe something in there is screwing ya up.

And yeah, what Perf said.

Oops, don't know what happenend there. Thanks for letting me know i'm not alone here, Turner. Only my cousin in the marines has used my computer besides me. It was only to check his yahoo email. he has used my computer before to do this and I had no trouble, then. So I don't understand. anyway I'm satisfied that I don't seem to have been singled out, so I'll stop complaining, now. But I'd really appreciate some instruction on how to prevent this from happening in the future. Chances are good that if i have to go through this again, I'll simply avoid this forum forever more.

I wouldn't forsake this place because of that. I mean, yeah, it sucks, and it's a lot to put up with, but there is so much here in this forum that I would actually pay (if I had to and could afford it) to learn here.

Anyways, hope it clears itself out. I don't recall my problem lasting long. Guess it was just the luck of the Cosmic Ray. . . .

I have annoying problems with posting here too...I checked the 'always sign in routine' in the IE (which works, no problems at CDG, for example). Now, when I want to post an answer, I have to log in to each timeto get to 'post reply'. Then, when I want to post the answer, I get told I'm not logged in. I log in again, find myself on the 'No thread specified' page, and have use the 'Back' button to find the reply and submit it - but sometimes the reply field is blank now, so I always must be able to paste in my answer again.
And this I have to do with every topic I want to answer to...so a usual visit at CFC means 10+ log-ins  (but still CFC is worth it, and better then Apolyton - which crashes my system, namely my mouse (!) each visit...)

Clearing cached cookies usually resolves this problem. Yeah, you gotta know your password to get logged back in after clearing, but if you choose a sensible password, that isn't too difficult. ;)

I have found that my computer at work "forgets who I am" (similar problem to yours) every couple of days. I just have to log in again, though, and am fine for several more days.

(Now if I could just figure out why the last 2 days it has taken 5 minutes for any given CFC page to load [at work only - home is fine] I will be happy.)

BTW, I moved this thread to Site Feedback, as it is not Civ3 related. ;)

Corrupted cookies occur on the user's browser and windows files. I do not know of a way to prevent them. They are just occaisionale accidents. Presumably there frequency can be reduced by keeeping the the browser updated, but I am unaware of any cure.

I went through a similar problem only a few weeks ago.
If you want to delete your cookie cache then move the civforum cookie to the desktop, delete the others and move it back again.

deleting the cookies and cache etc. will mean that any site he is automatically logged into will log out, because passwords and auto-sign in stuff is stoed in the cookies. and he said he didnt keep his passwords handy, so every site that he logs into he will have to ask for a password reminder or something.
that.
