Here on the fanatics forum´s ive met so many people that really hate xp. Why? I think its pretty good.

I have XP, and it works just fine for me.

It's just the traditional Microsoft-bashing - something I am proud to say that I participate actively in. :D

Shouldn't this be in the Computer Talk section? :hmm:

1.) The graphic artists were snatched from Kindergarten - I mean, come on...
2.) It's a resource hog
3.) Still, it's no more stable than 98
4.) The horror to get older games to work!
5.) It ruined an otherwise great LAN party for me.

As horrible as it may sound, but 98 is still my choice OS. :ack:

1. You can change back to the old style if you want.
2. Not sure what you mean.
3. It is atleast as stable as win 98
4. I never had such problems
5. Are you saying that its not possible to play on LAN with xp?

2. I mean it uses way too much resources for my liking.
3. Well... Lucky for you I guess...
5. At the LANs we arrange, having XP as your OS meant no gaming for 9 out of 10 people.

As a gamer i use win 98 second edition and it work very well, one of my friend decide to use millenium and he was laughing at me, but not very long, after a few day, i was laughing at him, then he try win pro 2000, i laugh even more, then he use win XP but several driver are missing, so i laugh about him again ( he start the war so...). He s no more my friend now ( too much stupid )

So win 98 second edition is still the best gamer choice IMO. I have no problem with modern games like civ 3 and i can play old game like red alert.

I've tried 98 and 2k pro.. 98 kept crashing on me and 2k pro gave me the blue screen of death..

At first I had some driver and compatability issues with xp pro but after downloading all the updates xp has been running like a dream.. my LAN is working just fine..

I don't use XP but a friend of mine does. He hates it, it is constantly crashing on him. Thankfully he has partitioned his hard drive and has Linux installed.

Backwards compatability is the big issue. There isnt any. It may be more stable than ME, but even Win95 programs often need patches. For those of us that like old comfortable things, it
is a total pain in the donkey. MS has no interest in compatability, since new programs require bigger faster machines, which lead to more shipped with system sales. It is so bad the Microsofts game, Age of Empires, has problems.

Another issue, that does not bother me personally, is the licensing, which is draconian. People that add on and upgrade frequently have had to purchase new OS's. Or so I've heard. In short its the Win95 story all over again.

I’m a poor, poor man still running ’98 :( . Hey Panda, is XP that bad with old games? I’m having a hell of a time playing Wolfenstein 3D on any machine, anyways.

We have three computers at home, all have three different OS's (98, Me and XP) and my lan runs perfectly so far. I have only played newer games multiplayer and they work, I've also got civ 2.42 working. My problem with XP though is that it crashes as much as all the other OS's from MS:(

I'm using Windows XP, and I've never had a better OS. Maximum stability and user-friendliness matter most to me, and XP provides that.

I have tried all Microsoft Windows versions, and from experience, I can tell you that this is by far the best.

Agreed. It's too bad that some of my really old MSDOS games won't work anymore (those in which you have to attrib IRQ numbers to get the sound card working, remember guys?), but other than that it's the most stable and the fastest OS I ever got from Microsoft.

So apart from not being able to play the crappy old games (Wolf3D Yeah! :p), XP is a good OS. Fair enough, might give it a try then.

My friends brother has an XP, and the only problem I can see is that it leaks memory...but it goes pretty dang fast.

had win95 before worked great, ahve Xp now and it works great too. Never had any problems... and I abuse my systems alot. With games downloads and ****.

I have Windows XP and I have no trouble with it :)

XP is just the latest step in Wintel's planned obsolecence. The thing goes like this the latest versian of Windows requires a faster chip to spur intel into creating faster chips when they really don't need it, then windows makes the old versian obsolete with new incompatible office tools that force them to buy the chip. They force computer manufacturers to buy the latest versian of windows and not 98, 95 or 3.1 so that it keeps spurring the scheme forward.
