Seriously how can the programmers be so sloppy that something as obvious as this is not only included on release but in the first patch either? Every time I lose I have to look around at the rankings to figure out who won and how. It is literally the dumbest thing I've ever seen in any civ game. I just lost one right now and I'm still not even sure why. I guess the Russians has too much culture??? Makes me so mad...
Why doesn't the game tell you how you lost and who to?

Reload the game and check the victory screen to see who is about to win. But yes, it is very annoying.

It would be great to mention the victor and victory achieved on the defeat screen (the one that shows up after the ruined modern city cinematic).
