I decided not to buy Civ 5 as a result of this.
A pity.
A pity.
Frankly it is your loss. It is the simple and plain truth.I decided not to buy Civ 5 as a result of this.

That is too bad, steam is awesome. Today's peak of Civ V players having a great time was 40,839.
And how do you know that everyone playing the game is having a great time?
A lot of those people might be here tomorrow complaining.![]()
Not possible, they'd rather take another turn![]()

Ya alot of people feel this way. But they still managed to sell ~200k copies and which is an an estimated 6-7 million off of sales. Which begs the question.. how much did development cost with them cutting the dev team in mid production.
I'd be interested to know where you got the sales figures. That would be worth a news item, right?
Steam is great for those people that just want to play the game and don't care how the computer works. Not so great for those of us that like to micro-manage every task of administering our computers.

Which means you don't like to micromanage your PC.. meaning the comment doesnt apply to you.I'm a software engineer, used Linux since 1996, have a Mac now, I do care how computers work and want them to work really well.
I also have a job and a million other things to do in my life ,and love when things are simple and trouble-free. So far Steam has been, except once, when I was at a cottage 1h30 away from any internet access, cellphones not working, and for some reason my friend's Civ5 disappeared from his hard drive (no clue how he did it or what happened to Win7..), and we had to drive back to civilization (lol) so we could activate his copy on Steam before playing again....
Otherwise, it hasn't been getting in the way, and patches are downloaded automatically whenever I boot into Windows? Sounds good to me, much less to manage and I can focus on having fun.
