Why is Hip Hop/R&B music so popular?

Here in Ireland, where the overwhelming majority of people are white and not American or English, pop music is disproportionately dominated by hiphop/R&B-type music. From what I can gather it is the same in most countries. Why is this?

Because black music is good, and I wouldn't say it's disproportionately dominating, but maybe if you lived somewhere where there are no black people then black music might seem a bit foreign and might stand out a bit much.

It's not that there are no black people here, and the few that are don't tend to have a disproportionate influence on the music industry. It's mainly foreign MOBO.

It's music for young people, no matter what part of the world they're living in.

And despite what a bunch of grumpy fugly old folk will tell you, Hip Hop has produced some very good music.

Maybe it's because I'm American and we produce most pop music, or at least it seems so by what's played on the radio here, but do the Irish actually produce music as good as American and British music? If not, why wouldn't most of the music be foreign?

Proportionate to its population probably no other small country has produced anything like as many huge music acts as Ireland. But the point is not most of the music being foreign and I'm only using Ireland as one example. The point is throughout the world, in coutries where most people are white, there is always a disproportionately large amount of popular 'black' music.

Some of it's pretty good music.

It's popular because it's catchy, has a good beat, doesn't get preachy and introspective, and is just damn good dance music in general.

Well, it explains some of the popularity. In some cases, a lot of people listen to good music, but it's probably more due to the catchiness of the music involved.

Let me try and put this whole thread another way, because I'm clearly not getting my point across.

Throughout the history of popular music, black people and music percieved as being 'black' has always done very well. Yeah, 'white' music has done better but that's because of some very obvious demographic skews. East Asian, Jewish, Indian, German, and so on music has not done as well. Many songs nowadays which are not in any way hip-hop have little raps thrown in. It seems to be an almost vital ingredient in pop music to be seen as a little bit 'black'. Why is this?

Well, I think most of the music in the world comes from America, right? From big cities like LA and Chicago and New York and Atlanta? Those cities are quite black (about 40% I think, maybe more) so it would make sense that a lot of the music that comes out of there is black, and that music is good, of course, and unless white people in foreign countries don't like black music because it's 'black', then it makes sense why a lot of the music they listen to is black.

Because children are degenerates who know nothing about aesthetically pleasing music, and prefer onanistic stimuli instead . This is also why rock "music" is popular.

Why not call this thread a shot and a miss and move on?

Mods, please close, I'm not articulate, intelligent or patient enough for this topic.

It's incredible (and cool as Mise says), and it's roots are from some of the most amazing musicians to have ever existed...

Edit: whoops, didn't read above post!

Aesthetic arrogance for the loss.

What's with these aesthetic relativists? Honestly. :crazyeye: You're perfectly well to like aesthetically crappy things like Rebecca Black and her equivalent ilk like the rest of rock music, just realize that is akin to preferring to eat bitter poison over ice cream.

It does not have roots from Bach, Mozart, or Beethoven, no; it has roots from savage music, whilst stripping the music.
