Dude, biggest combined military in the world? Are you kidding me? I think someone did a study once that if you combined the rest of the world's armies and compared it to the United States, the United State's armed forces was still larger... Probably not the case but staggering to think about if true...

A country which has been a tributary state to other countries for much of the history, and had its culture tremendously influenced by its master qualifies to be in the vanilla pack?

If it is not for the Korean market Firaxis shouldn't include them at all

Better check your facts on that one.....

You might want to check your figures: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_countries_by_number_of_troops

And if you add the two Koreas, they are second to Iran (and millions ahead of USA).

I think there's a rather large country that you've missed out of the thought process here... it begins with a C. Largest population on the planet.... 5 letters.

I'll give you two guesses.

Everyone jumped down your throat but didn't realize why you thought that. The US spends more MONEY on military than everyone else. Just don't have the same number of individual soldiers.

To give everybody the possibility to answer correctly, there are indeed a few choices missing:

* I don't care at all
* Never heard of any korean history
* Maybe they should be in an expansion

The OP was quite arrogant by not including these options, assuming everybody cares about great korea :p
Don't get me wrong, a friend worked there for years and greatly liked the people, I've heard a lot of good things about them, I just hate nationalism!

Personally I think at least one southeast-asian civ should be there when they release an expansion, but I'm not sure which is the most important.

I didn't really look at the poll at first... other than the obvious lack of a "no, go away" option, WTH is up with this:

"yes, take out china..."

Really?

Expansion is sure fine. Korea is not more important than China or Japan, and what i have read in the civilopedia about Korea will sure lead to a place in one of the expansions.

First Poland, then Spain, now Korea.

:shake:

I'm making a thread about Denmark soon, just because it seems popular.

You forget Italy. :mischief:

They locked the facetious New Zealand thread before it even got to page two! It stirs incoherant nationalistic rage it does.

It's like, they weren't taking us seriously or something.

...i guess, we'll soon have a thread about sealand :mischief:...

Anatomy of "Why is _____ not a Civ" threads.

Page 1: OP writing about the Civ in question, citing the feeble inconsequential achievements they have made throughout history.

Page 1-3: Members of sound mind acknowledging the merits of the civilization, but stating that only a limited number of Civs can be included, and this one isn't big enough to be considered.

Page 2-6: OP and members of the Civ working up a nationalistic rage, insisting the Civ is worthy of the game.

Page 2 - 7: Facetious and sarcastic posts related to the civ.

Page 5 - 10: OP and members of the Civ respond, flaming begins. nationalistic rage persists. OP may or may not accuse others of racism or demand bans.

Page 4: Dale makes a Sealand joke.

Page 6 - 15: Flame wars are in full force. Rational members leave thread. Activity in the thread is completely driven by the OP and the members of the civilization in question, those who are locked into heated debate about its merits compared to China or Egypt, and posters who are just making joke comments.

@OP:
:spank:

Throughout the entire series, Korea has never been in a Vanilla copy of the game, yet they arrive in the expansions! Ever heard of Play the World? How about Warlords?

Be patient, man! Don't complain until after they release the expansions!

@Those who underestimate Korea
:sniper:

Let me give you reasons for including Korea:
-Throughout history, Korea has been the landbridge between China and Japan. (I'm not talking about geography) A few centuries after Year 0, Korea adopted Buddhism and the Chinese writing system, which they later passed on to Japan. Japan owes a big part of its culture to Korea, whether they like it or not!
-Technologically, these guys rock. They invented the printing press and inscribed the entire Tripitaka onto 81,340 wooden blocks before 1300 AD!!! And don't forget about these babies! :D

-You need leaders? I've got leaders! Wang Kon, Sejong the Great, Yi Seong-gye, Taejo, Queen Min, and Emperor Gojong would be my initial choices.

Never heard any old Korean Civilization. It must be your imagination.

Korea should be included, but its leaders should be Eternal President KIM IL-SUNG and Supreme Leader KIM JONG-IL. Under their leadership GLORIUS KOREA is a paradise on earth, in stark contrast to the countries that are SLAVES TO CAPITALIST PIG-DOGS IN WASHINGTON.

Shine bright, you dawn, on this land so fair,
The country of three thousand ri
So rich in silver and in gold you are,
Five thousand years your history.
Our people ever were renowned and sage,
And rich in cultural heritage,
And as with heart and soul we strive,
Korea shall forever thrive!

And in the spirit of Mount Paektu,
With love of toil that shall never die,
With will of iron fostered by the truth,
We'll lead the whole world by and by.
We have the might to foil the angry sea,
Our land more prosperous still shall be,
As by the people's will we strive,
Korea shall forever thrive!

As a nation, Korea is such a tragedy......

seriously.......it is a tragedy because they survived between china and japan and doesnt become a part of either of them.

i know this word sounds like racism, but there is no discrimination meaning. this is the miserable fact. honestly, i admire Korean since they are tough enough to survive between china and japan.

though, according to wikipedia, it is true that the two countries have the largest combined total (just over 11 million, if i added correctly, since i did it fast), they're not really important on the world stage, nor have they really ever been. they were a minor problem throughout history and if it wasn't for the soviet union, we probably wouldn't have even bothered entering the korean war.
