Why is most of the Islamic world so backwards?

Indonesia's doing alright. The young (ten years old) democracy looks remarkably sturdy and seems fairly vigorous. Human rights are pretty good and the goverment seems to be working well enough. The economy is pretty poor, but growing at a respectable rate (6%). Unemployment and GDP per capita were lower and higher respectively before the 1997. The Asian Financial crisis hit Indonesia very hard. All of its surpluses and reserves were wiped out and the economy contracted by almost 15%. Nowadays, high food and oil prices are obviously having something of an affect in depressing growth.

Having said that, I think it's really hard to blame Indonesias' Islamism for its economic misfortune.

How can you call Indonesia ok on Human Rights after all the violence it took in the late 90s to finally separate it from East Timor?

And i have no problem with it because it does not create problems to the X factor. How human identify groups of humans. (Apples with oranges )

If there is already a group of people that are identified with a word that
describes them.

And we use the antithesis of that word to describe some other race (We could use a similar word to describe the sky or earth and that wouldn't be a problem) But we compare Apples with Apples. The problem is we aceept identity number one which is older. Therefor that word has a longer history of evolution that the antisemitism one.

Hence i say it has not matured or evolved in comparison with the other word.

And it was a wrong usage by the Germans as several things they said about history and several terms they created.
And yes this is also about history.

The only use of the word semitic was not the one used by the Germans.

I can't see the word antisemitic as an expansion and etymologically the same word (only the antithesis is expressed in front of it) as the word semitic. What the Germans said was just BS. Being accepted into use as the correct one is simly a big screw you to what we understand as historically accurate.

I didn't have the courage to read the whole thing, so sorry if that has been said before.
Couple of points:

1 What do you compare these countries to? Do you compare them to Scandinavian countries or to African countries...? Then you might not find them that "backwards" after all...

2 Look at Africa: Are Non-Muslim countries more "advanced" than Muslim countries? I don't think there's a significant difference.

3 Look at Asia: Are women better off in India (where the majority isn't Muslim) than in Iran or in Malaysia (where the majority is Muslim). Are human right any better in China or North Korea than in Turkey or UAE?

4 Don't forget that when Spain was Muslim other religions were largely tolerated, Unlike any other European country then.

5 I find it very hard to deny that "the West" has a very big responsibility as far as dictatorship being in power in many Muslim countries such as Saudi Arabia or Jordania. Democratic regimes (even if different from western ones) such as Iran don't seem to be encouraged by "the West".

6 Don't forget that had the US (and I'm not pro-American) not saved our ass in WW2, Europe might be Nazi or Soviet or Nuked today...

And finally stop caricaturing Muslims as intolerant stupid people at best or crazy suicide terrorists at worst, this is simply not the reality.

How did the US save Spain? It didnt, in fact it propped up Facist Spain for years.

they helped, but Europe was saved by the USSR, not the Americans. Look up the stats on who killed the most Germans, who took the most casualties etc. the Brits and Yanks contributed, but the soviets probably could have done it on their own if they had to. The Soviets beat 607 German divisions. The allies destroyed 176.

Definitely.
All muslims aren't terrorists.This is a propaganda of western world.Maybe they created it.

Soviet Union was the major contributor defeating Germany, with some help from US and UK;
US saved Europe from darkness, despite Soviet invincible army.
