It just bugs me that I can't find why purple was a notable color for the Romans.
I'm aware purple was very hard to find in their day and that only the richest of the rich could afford to dye their clothes purple, but that wasn't solely a Roman thing...

The other color schemes (for the most part) make sense and are historical. So why is Rome purple? Shouldn't that be the Iroquois (purple and white)? WHAT AM I MISSING HERE?!

Purple was the color worn by Roman emperors and magistrates and Catholic bishops.

Purple was the colour that the roman emperor used (and some other of the highest officials). This is also the reason that the colour purple regarded as a royal colour.

Why is China green? Why is India green? Why are Greece and Ottoman white? I think I can ask this question for more than half of the civs.

Yes, but for the Romans it actually has an answer.
And Greece's colours (blue and white):

I'm sure the dev team puts in some effort in "matching colors" but I doubt it is a hard set rule. Agreed that Rome and Greece were likely intentional.

England is probably red and America blue for uniform colors during revolutionary war time period.

Japan, Arabia, and Korea is probably just based off the flag?

Germany is gray for Iron Cross.

I think England's colours would be based on those of St George's cross, not uniform colours in a minor war that the Kingdom of England no longer existed for.

Could be, just throwing out ideas. I didn't meant to imply the one war was an entire history of England, just that "redcoats" are often a focus on war games including the British.

OK here's the Chinese problem. The Chinese icon is obviously based off this from the last Chinese Imperial Dynasty:

But this is not green at all. It's yellow. I feel that China should be yellow in game.

Here's another example. Iroquois Confederacy's flash is as follows:

But in game, Iroquois is not blue (nor does it use an icon even remotely similar to the flag).

I think that the Byzantines should have been red and gold, but that scheme was already taken by the Persians. There's also the problem of red and white and red white and blue being almost ubiquitous colors on national colors. It's bad enough that Austria and England have almost-identical colors.

It's actually purple; the purple represents the sky/universe that surrounds us, and the white symbolizes purity and good mind. F-ing beautiful

Do we actually have a blue and red civ? Seems like common enough flag colors, but I can't match them to a civ off the top of my head.

Well they did eventually use that icon, but for the Samurai Invasion scenario as Manchuria. Beats me on why though.

Another big one is Spain. Spain has consistently been red and yellow throughout history:

So where in the world are they getting the color pink from??? The pink lion in their coat of arms has only been there since 1981. Before that it was red too.
