Similar to another thread here, i know. Here's the situation. I would really appreciate completely honest answers.

So i loved MOO2, and i went and bought MOO3 3 days ago. As soon as i came home, i went online and read all the reviews about it. I know, i should have done this before buying it, but i just assumed that it would be a decent game because of all the time and hype that went into it.

Anyways, it turns out that a lot of people think that this is a terrible game, and that it didn't live up to its expectations at all. It seems to have a lot of very annoying issues, such as horrible AI, automation issues, etc.

So here i am, with an unopened MOO3 box in front of me. I want to know, is it worth opening it and keeping it? I'm willing to accept that it's not a very good game at the moment... but here's the serious question: Are all the main issues fixable? Like, in a patch by quicksilver, or by player made mods. I've heard that this game is very moddable which is promising. Is the AI really that bad? And if so, is it possible to fix? Is the annoying automation issue possible to fix?

That's about all i can think of right now. Thank you in advance for your honest and helpful answers :).

Honestly, I like it. Its hard to learn at first, but now that I understand it a little more, i enjoy it. The key will be an AI upgrade. After that, Im satisfied.

My honest opinion is take the game back, especially if the box is still unopened. Get your money back and do like I intend to do. That is wait until they patch this game to a point where it is playable. I regret that I opened mine and could only get store credit for it's return but at least I didn't lose my money.

I had the game for a week and played about 17 hours of it. I read about all the advice on the forums on how to play the game and was doing ok for a while. Then I realized that this game just wasn't all that good. All the negative remarks made about this game on the forums ring true IMHO.

If you really want to give this game a chance wait until it is patched up properly. Then go and buy the game. Until then life is too short to waste hard earned money on an unfinished product in the hopes that someday it will be finished properly ala patches.

Well im pretty addicted to multiplayer there are virtually no bugs in multiplayer this is because your fighting human opponents.

I suggest playing a multiplayer game with these settings (note only moo2 multiplayers should try this for moo3)

Medium galaxy 2 minute turns 2 minute battles 5 battles max
4-8 humans + 4 ai

now b4 you play remember this game will last 6 hours!

but if you play a multiplayer of moo2 same settings a game can last 12-14 hours

I'd rather take 6 hours thanks for a multi-game
if you liked moo2 multiplayer you will love moo3 multiplayer
if you compare moo2 multi to moo3 multi... moo3 is a god send

I was walking through some of the forums for games consoles and you know what I saw??

** Please help, I can't complete Level 1 on Mario Sunshine, can I have a cheat? **

So this person is having problems with the easiest game on the easiest machine made by the most "child friendly" computer game company .... and he can't get past the 1st level

I had to flame him, what challenge is there in needing a cheat for 1st lvl of the easiest game alive??

So the question isn't wether you should keep MOO3 - its is if you remember why you have a PC in the 1st place.

Me - If i spend £35 on something (i did say if) I expect it to have some lastability. When i get a PC game it isn't HOW FAST CAN I COMPLETE THIS??? - it is more HOW MUCH CAN I GET OUT OF THIS

This is the same reason PC games arent rented at video shops, they lack the assualt of the senses that consoles do and MOO3 is the champion of this ideal!

Its complicated--- GOOD!!

I want to know ill be sctractching my head in 3 months time

If you want Mario, get an Xbox or a Gamecube or a Teddybear Machine

If you want a challenge, if you want the most anticipated and hard to buy game in the country, get Moo3

Phew... Now, Infrogrames, where is my commision check

:)

Take it back and get Galactic Civilizations - it is more MOO than MOO3 will ever be, unless you have enough money to keep both.

Background: I own all MOOs in the series. I loved the first two. I purchased MOO3 as soon as I could. I considered buying what is called the "Strategy Guide" or what I like to call the freakin' USER MANUAL as the game is very difficult to understand. As one game mag reviewer called it: "Speadsheets in Space". <- Very appropriate.

I now have Galactic Civilizations - it is much more like MOO2 but with Civ type battles (you always stay in the main strategy screen for battles). The one thing that GalCiv could have more of is graphical fluff but for a 4X game that really isn't the most important part. The game turns progress a good pace and there is hardly a time where I am just clicking the Turn button like I was constantly doing in MOO3.

I will be doing an indepth review for the GameCatcher Magazine. I will be doing some comparisons with MOO3 but mostly the review will be on the merits GalCiv has for being it's own game. Check it out when it is posted. www.gamecatcher.net

hmm, I only played GalCiv for a few hours and I didn't like it that much. For my tastes it's too much of a Civ3-Clone (kindof Civ3 in space). I don't need a new game for that, I can still play my civ3.

And for me it lacks the depth that Moo3 has. Yes, it does take time to get into it but that's exactly what I like.

But in the end all it comes down to is taste. Moo3 is more a niche-game while GalCiv propably suits a larger number of gamers (but now MP? how dare they?)

the problem with Moo3 IMHO is that it's so unlike all other games: if you like Moo2 and Civ3 it doesn't mean that you will like MOO3, it's unlike any game I've ever seen.

Have you tried GalCiv with the updates? Makes the game run a bit better - and you can run it in windowed mode....if you run your computer at 1152x768x16-bit (can't do 24/32-bit).

If you open it and don't like it PCB, just go outside and yell "pull". Or, if you are nice, sell it to a local pawn shop owner who dosn't pay attention to games or their reviews, and all you have to do is claim that it's a best seller. That should be worth the time you spent on the game:)

After playing MoO3 for 4+ years now I think it's a keeper.

Bhruic's MoO3Patcher and Patches have become the ultimate "Patch".

There are also many excellent Mods to go along with the Patcher. Just like there are here for CIV II thru IV.

I actually played 1 game continously for 6 months. It took a total of 2 years to complete it on Sole Survivor.

It's complex. And that's why many ppl didn't like it. They wanted Fast Food gaming and got a Chef's School game instead. Practice and learn, and practice and learn some more.

Modding the game is addictive too. Like many ppl here have found out about CIV IV modding.

I'll be playing these 2 Series (MoO and CIV) for a long time. Actually I have been playing both for a long time. :D
