Is there any good reason for the 3 day late release date outside of North America?
Seems a very antiquated and bizarre thing to do on the face of it.
Obviously very annoying to be treated as a second class customer.

I dunno, but I've heard that games in North America are usually released on Tuesday, and Friday for Europe.

Despite everything being pretty much online, people still buy boxes, and I believe the rule still needs to apply for online. Besides, Weekend release is in my opinion WAY better than mid-week. So I'm actually happy.

Have no idea why but USA always releases games on Tuesdays whist in Europe they always release on Fridays.

Honestly, the day online releases are considered more important than boxed ones cant come fast enough.

I'm really annoyed at how "North America" doesnt include Mexico, I'll have to wait until friday.

Something about restocking schedules of retailers in the US and the rest of the world, and said retailers put pressure on publishers so that they don't lose out on sales because people have already bought it online.
It might have made sense a couple of years ago, but with piracy being so widespread nowadays one really has to question the wisdom of this system. New games are cracked and uploaded within a day of their first release day, creating an awkward three day window when Europeans can pirate a came but aren't able to legally buy it.
I hope that publishers will soon catch on to this.

I certainly don't remember a Tuesday game launch over here in UKOGBANI (with the exception of 11.11.11). Still makes me annoyed though - why not the Friday beforehand?

Europe pirates more.

Not sure about that.
I have no doubt that it's true for the lesser developed parts (Bulgaria, Romania etc.), but I don't think there's more piracy in Germany, France or the UK than in the USA. Overall, the EU is the bigger market and strategy games sell better over here (especially in Germany where they are probably an outlet for our world-domination tendencies).

It's because of how sales are counted. It's done differently in the US vs Europe hence the different days of the week. You'll find more details if you google it.

It's an archaic institution that encourages piracy and is beyond ********, some publishers have realized this and have worldwide releases.

Just shows how much smarter Europeans are.

anyhow, buying something and still having the impulse to pirate it is just wrong

Can anyone enlighten me on when Americans get their paydays? because here in Ireland it's Thursday/Friday, which would explain the weekend sales.

We might wanna drop the piracy discussiong immediately.

It doesn't really matter. Piracy is mostly related to the accessibility of software in people's own language and within a reasonable time period of initial release. Valve has talked about this, making piracy a non-issue by just providing people everywhere a similar quality of service. Nothing to do with "lesser developed parts".

Either way, this release delay probably has nothing to do with any of that, but with the sales counting and/or retailers as Giskler said. I'm pretty annoyed by it myself, as this is 2013 and these things are digital now, but nothing you can do.

For me it's the 1st of the month and the 15th. If it falls on a non-working day the the last workday before it.
