Why were the reviews so wrong?

PS. Plughead, if you're reading this, I still remember the "Rise of the Robots" fiasco

Do you really have to go back that far? I think the point is it's extremely rare and not something to be accusing people of every game that comes out that the score you don't agree with for whatever reason.

If you want in depth analysis of a game, going to game reviewer for advice is the worst thing you can do. They just dont know any better most of the time.

I didnt like civ 4 when it first came out, but it grew on me. I don't recall the community despising it like this though. Most people liked it alot from day 1.

They don't know crap about games - and even if they did, they are too scared to write the truth to not piss the publisher.

If you want the truth about a game, go to forums. All weaknesses will be pointed there.

unfortunately this is the net- and i don;t beleive anything anyone writes- especiallty when they preface it with "i am an electrical cpu logistics game maker guy, and i say..."

really? i am a female cosmonaut with pyschic abilities and i can see you are not what you claim.

at any rate- i hated civ4 and then liked it enough to play about seventy two thousand four hundred and thirty nine games.

now that i have the graphics working i can see alot of good in this version- like they tapped into Rome Total War which was a smart thing to do

The buttons are easy- and it looks new because i did not play revolutions

the evidence is clear- Of course reviewers are tied into the biz- what, are you guys like 10?
here's another tip- if your rich and real good looking and tall things tend to be easier for you

He's one of the reviewers of Civ 5 you're all so quick to call corrupt without knowing a damn thing. First you insult developers (myself) calling us lazy, sloppy, incompetent money grabbers, then you insult the reviewers calling them corrupt pushovers who don't know anything about games. It's offensive and ignorant and we have every right to fight our corner, doesn't make a difference if people believe who we are or not but why else would we get so annoyed when they make such claims?

Excuse me but I have to agree with the OP here, I loved CivIV (and I, II and III for that matter) and I hate this game. I hates it!

I have other stuff to do you know? I have a girlfriend I need to keep happy. Chores that need to be done. And sleep. Did the developers of CivV realize there are human beings around that need to get some sleep once in a while? "No", they said, "screw our customers, we're going to make a game that makes them want to play 'just one more turn' over and over again.

And don't get me started on my other games. Since a week, when I start my pc I see the icons of HoI2, E:TW and EUII look at me with desperate hope in their eyes, "play me, please?". I'll have you know I payed good money for those and quite a few other games who will just be shelved for at least months to come.

I think the accuracy/validity issue was pretty well covered in the original quote that you only quoted the 'i am this' from the very start of. Are you being purposefully obtuse?

i think there is a quote about Socrates inthe game somewhere- you know the guy that found out everyone thought they knew the truth and he was the only one that knew he did not know

but game reviewers are smarter then socrates and they have proof- in writing

Even big time Civ 5 defenders on this forum acknowledge the AI is largely terrible, and yet pretty much every review glossed over this.


I don't trust any mainstream reviews anymore - I can't think of a single big-hype title that was released in the past 5 years that got less than a 8.5/10

IGN gave SimCity Societies a 5.8 "Mediocre".
