[WIP] Sikh/Punjabi civilization - looking for suggestions and art help

I loaded up the mod to take screenshots of it and I had a breakthrough! (gotta love that feeling)

I haven't tested the mod since after the update with the new Conquest of the World Deluxe scenario - in which the Aztecs has a Faith From Kills trait. I read somewhere that using the same TXT_KEY tag in a new <Row></Row> setup would break your text files. And everything broke down _except_ for the traits TXT_KEYs, where the game took the ones from Firaxis' scenario. So basically I had to get my trait some other name than TRAIT_FAITH_FROM_KILLS and now the text shows up again. Which is quite ironic since the next step would be to rethink the trait whether or not to keep faith from kills... :p

Problem solved! :D (Wow, I really am the master of figuring stuff out AFTER asking others about it)

I'm curious to see (or hear as the case may be) what kind of music you use for this civ. I'm a big music lover and love how Firaxis gave each civ a unique theme music (allthough after playing England I had the urge to go find a copy of "The Planets").

I haven't had much time to work more on this but I edited the first post and made a summary on what's done and what's not in the first post to have a more clear overview.

Hm.............I'm also a little leery of the current UA given how similar it is to the Aztec's (not to mention that there are several mods that alter the Aztecs to also have that trait) so why not something based around the Langar (was looking at Sikhism on Wikipedia and it mentioned the communal kitchen or Langar)? It could give an increase of food from farms or from cities. This is just a suggestion of course, it's entirely your call. The fast worker is interesting, and it would certainly make construction in rough terrain easier.

I looked up Langar and it sounds like a nice concept to implement a UA based on, rather than the faith from kills. Here's my idea, what do you think:

Langar
+1 :c5faith: from each Farm and +1 :c5moves: for Workers.

and since the food is served in the Gurdwara, it will be a temple replacement also providing food. How high should this food bonus be; +1, +2?

Sounds good to me. I think plus 2 since the temple provides 2 faith and I don't think it would unbalance things (since other food providing buildings usually come in later eras).

Instead of just implementing a plain +2 food bonus, I made the Gurdwara like this:

Gurdwara
Replaces Temple
+2 :c5faith:
+1 :c5food:
+1 :c5food: per Religion in City

I haven't tested it with a multi-religious city yet but in my quick test I built a Gurdwara, +1 food from Buildings, then founded a religion and the city had an extra +1 food from Religion.

The idea behind this is that the Sikh Empire had citizens following many different religions, most of them weren't even followers of Sikhism, and the langar (which are held in Gurdwaras and is why I give the food bonus) welcome people of any religion.

I really like the direction this civ is taking. A very food-faith oriented civ like this hasn't been done yet, AFAIK. I'll look at creating a YnAEMP patch for you once you're civ is completed and I'll include support for it in my Cultural Diversity mod. Keep up the good work

Thanks! I'm really happy with it too, didn't think my little Sikh civ idea would get this far. :p If I wasn't so crappy at making the art it would all probably be done already, hehe. Time for me to dive into writing civilopedia entries now.

You're welcome to this icon for the Gudwara that I've made, until something better comes along:

As for music, the next DLC for Crusader Kings II expands the game into India, and I'm sure something appropriate could come from that.

If someone can provide me the high-res great prophet map icon I can come up with something.
Did you mean the icon or the unit flag?
This is the largest icon for the GP I could find in the game's packed art files:

He is asking for the map icon I believe, the one that shows on top of the unit to identify what kind of unit it is. (Yeah the flag)

I just want a template to work with.

Oh yes, the unit flag is what I mean. Thanks for giving me the word btw. :p I started looking for the GP one but I'm still learning about where to find all these files so no success yet.

Ooh, I like the map. Thanks a lot! :goodjob:

A few things though:
- The surrounding areas seem to be based on today's map, even though the Sikh Empire was in the 1800s? The map on that site is a map of today's world with the borders painted on it so I don't think that can be used as the only reference.
- Also, the civ is Punjabi Empire (mostly because I didn't want the religious reference, and that was an alternative name for it), and thus it seems odd to have a Punjab outside the territory. That Punjab seen is the modern-day Indian region of Punjab which doesn't cover the same area as the 'old' Punjab.

I found this map of Punjab under Ranjit Singh on Wikipedia (see spoiler), would that maybe be a good second reference for surrounding areas (maybe changing China to Tibet, take out Punjab, and change [Pak]istan to Sindh?). Maybe the text instead of Sikh Empire until 1846 could be Punjab under Ranjit Singh and maybe years too? Either of his reign (1801-1839), or just the end of his reign, 1839?

Spoiler :

Sorry, my few things were maybe not so few. :mischief: Your map looks very Firaxis style though, it's nice! :)

Edit: Oh btw, I started thinking of the locations on the map too. Lahore, Rawalpindi, Multan and Faisalabad are all good choices - they're in my city list all four of them. ;) Jammu and Kashmir and Himashal Pradesh are names of regions in modern-day India or Pakistan and I don't know if those names were used at that time. Maybe they could just be taken out?

On another note, this map I found will help me arrange city list because I think maybe one of my cities is seen outside the borders there, so I should maybe take that one off then. :D
