Wonder Graphics: 5 Year Plan

Ozy, I hate to bust your bubble but the Soviet Union would not have been able to defeat Germany in WW2, if not for American lend lease. Case in point the Soviet Union did, granted, produce 40,000 AFVS of all makes during the war. As most tacticians say amatuers study battles, but generals study logistics. In that same time not one Soviet truck or supply vehicle was manufactured by them. Which means that all those pretty tanks would have been nothing but rusting hulks if not for American trucks and supplies. Ask the Soviet soldier what he thinks of American c-rats,he would have starved without them. Remember that the Ukraine was overrun in 1941.There are not many farms in the Urals or Siberia The Soviets would have collapsed if not for the American aid recieved in the war. The Russians have finally recognised American help by putting up a statue to the FORD TRUCK. Most people do not realize how potent U.S. industrial might really is. As a fact of trivia the Rock Island Arsenal located in the middle of the Mississippi river produced 13,000 Shermans, and 8,000 Long Tom 155mm howitzers between Jan 1942 & Apr 1944 When production was SCALED BACK due to the fact that U.S. arms manufacturers were producing too much ! Remember this is only one place of manufacture.

... Did I say all that? :)

1. Lend-lease may certainly be a factor ...
2. The scenario is set 1933 - 1950. France might have stopped germany from re-occupying the Ruhr. The Russo-Japanese War of 1939 might not have happened or might have seen Russian incursions into China proper -- which probably would have guaranteed no lend-lease. The USSR might have invaded India in support of a communist-independence movement there ...

... In short, my dear fellow, it's NOT a WW2 in the East scenario :D!

Best Regards,

Oz

Ozy you are a good man. You are absolutely right about France before the Wehrmacht got going. And i apologise about sounding hardcore about the east front, but i'm tired of hearing historians spout off about the inevitibility of the Soviet Union defeating Germany.Without American help the Soviets would have fallen.

On this we are entirely agreed! -- and of course the USSR might even have fallen beforehand if the early war plans for Barbarossa had gone differently.

... Oh and insofar as the "good man" compliment goes -- in my experience, it generally takes one to know one! ;)

Thanks,

Oz

What is the 5 year plan, anyway?

One of Stalin's attempts to catch up with the west vis-a-vis massive industrialization in the 1920s and '30s. Led to incalculable human misery yet was very successful -- and there were more than one of them ...

Once again from Colin McEvedy: "In the late 1920s, Russia was producing, as it had in 1914, about half as much steel as the United Kingdom, which in turn was producing about half as much as Germany. Yet by 1937, when the second of Stalin's Five-Year Plans was completed, the gap had virtually been closed: Russia was turning out considerably more steel than Britain and very nearly as much as Germany."

It also led to significant urban expansion east of the Kiev-Odessa "line" -- it was during this time that Kharkov, Stalino, Rostov, Stalingrad, Denpropetrovsk, Gorki -- etc. -- came into their own as significant, urban-industrial centers.

Best,

Oz

O, ok! I might use it for maybe a govt. specific wonder, if that's possible.

I'm planning -- no surprise here! ;) -- on using it as a Communist-specific "improvement".

I have added the wonder and it works fine. But now I only want to set it up so only the russians in my game can make use of it.

I have giving the Russians Flavor I. Also marked that in the Wonder. But still If Iam Spain or what ever(which is not marked as Flavor I) can build this wonder. How this possible?

Does anyone have the link for the Wonder Splash, I remember seeing it hundreds of times but now I can't find it. It'd be great if someone could do that.

I'm going to include this in my Austria, Cherokee, and Traits (ACT) mod, which is a more complex verion of my Cherokee Civilization Mod.

euh, there's a splash by Rufus on page 1 of this thread, for instance ?

And then I made a new version for The Missing Links a few weeks ago, which you can find Here

There might be a 3rd one somewhere too, dunno anymore.

Questions: (1) is the advance where the wonder can be built from Optional and (2) is it marked "Cannot be traded"?

-- If still no luck, then do it the "old-fashioned" way :) -- set up an "Era=None" tech called Communist and have it be a necessary precursor for the (optional) advance which allows the wonder to be built.

-Oz

Nope its not marked as ""Can not be traded".

I dunno what u mean with ur first question.
But one other thing. @ Civ advancebar..........u see also some Flavor settings. So....

If I look @ Communisme were the wonder can be build. There is nothing marked @ the right side (in Flavor bar!). This ok? Or should I mark Flavor I?

New (and better, I think) splash.
