Wordle

Not necessarily. If you've eliminated all other 4 vowels, you'll often need to figure if one of them is present more than once. For that, I think TEPEE is actually quite useful. I wouldn't go for it in one of my first guesses, obviously.

Yeah, I open with ADIEU to determine the vowels. If none are in an OO word makes the most sense.

Spoiler Abserdle question :
Today ADIEU was all grey, so I went with ROOST. In retrospect BOOTH would be fractionally better.

If you open Abserdle with ADIEU there is a yellow A. Any ideas why?

Not necessarily, as it will tell you how many times that letter appears in the word. If you are down to one vowel, knowing how many times it is in the word can be helpful. Repeated letters seem to trip a lot of people up; I tend to forget about the possibility, anyway. I haven't yet trained my brain to consider both unguessed letters and known-to-be-in-the-word-somewhere-else letters.

I don't think this needs a spoiler, but just in case:
Spoiler Absurdle mechanics :
It must be that admitting there is an A in the word gives the largest bucket of possible words remaining. Otherwise you are stuck with only Os (and Ys), and the O bucket must be smaller than the A bucket. I would have guessed the E bucket was larger, but my intuition isn't very good for that, and looking up the word list would make the game no fun for me.

So today's - which I guessed in 3 - marks the day my frequency of success in 3 attempts ties success in 4 attempts for my largest bar. Yay! Also, I felt my word choices were slightly inspired:

Spoiler Hard mode :
Opened with ACUTE, which scored no vowels, but with the "T" in place I used PINTO to nail down the vowels, and that made MONTH stand out to me so I didn't spend too much time looking for competitors.

I do not play the game, but is not a word with one letter repeated 3 times not obviously an uninformative guess?
Its more like, will it even accept tepee? And what will it look like when there are more E’s in my word than an all E-voweled word?

Just try to guess "EEEEE" and see what happens

Thursday, 5 attempts. What a mess!

For the second line I was trying to write something else but only realised as I was typing that the one I wanted was a 6 letter word. I pressed "enter" anyway and the word was accepted.

I was stuck for a long time trying to figure out a word for the fourth line. Couldn't so I had to repeat a grey letter already used. After that the correct answer was obvious.

What's the game about?
I have to guess the word, cool - but where are any clues?
That’s weird I’ve played that word 3 times, twice on one wordle

I’ll read this tomorrow morning ;)

Penis is legit a great opener on Lewdle

After transfer to the NYT the word list has been modified, and some have been removed. "Penis" is on that list (the only other I remember is "slave").
Cancel culture!!!

Five today. Horror show.

And just checked with quordle SOOTH is an accepted word. As a follow up to yesterdays all grey ADIEU it would have been been the best try.

Got today's in four. Should've been three though: if I'd been thinking — or if I'd remembered to switch on Hard mode — that might(?) have prevented me from wasting my third guess on an already-shown-to-be-impossible solution:
Spoiler Thursday March 10th :
S T A R E
F A L S E
Spoiler Idiot alert! :
P A U S E
Spoiler :

Here's another one, https://www.heardle.app/, a guess-the-song-from-the-first-seconds game. Each failed guess/pass adds a second of playback, so it's strictly a recognition game I don't see how logic would help. Warning today's clue is very quiet for just for the first second of play.

Continuing my hot streak on Wordle today, solved in three:
Spoiler :
PIOUS (reusing a favourite opener)
SPARE
LAPSE

It took me 14 tries to get Absurdle to pick today's wordle word (which took 5 tries). This was the longest yet. However, I got Quordle in 7 today, so I'm feeling good about that. Three letter-finding words and then the 4 correct answers. Realistically, 7 is the best I'll ever do unless one of my letter-finding words is one of the answers, as I don't start guessing until word 4.

Worldle I ended up not liking much because I found it too easy- almost every time I got it on the first guess.

This one I dislike for the opposite reason: It's absolutely goddamn impossible unless I just happen to have heard the song before, and unlike a lot of other wordle clones I've seen, this one won't even give you any hints as to whether your wrong guess was in the right ballpark- I actually ended up figuring out who the artist was for today (I just guessed the only one of his songs I actually knew because it kinda sounded like that) but it didn't tell me that I had the right artist (or even the right genre), just that my guess was wrong. I could maybe logic it out a bit if it let me know if my wrong guess was on the right track, but giving me a few more seconds of a song I've never heard before doesn't really help at all!

Also I gotta say their song catalog is super limited to like "really well known songs by the poppiest of pop acts from the last few decades" which isn't a genre I listen to all that much, and it also seemingly doesn't include some really well known songs or artists that just aren't quite "poppiest of pop" genre wise even if they're still fairly poppy- like, at one point I tried guessing Coldplay as the artist and found they didn't have any Coldplay songs in their catalog, because apparently even Coldplay isn't pop enough for them.
