I can see our community has slowed down dramatically

Just FYI, C3 C&C forum has 65 visitors right now, C4 - 94, C5 - 41. So, probably, there are not very much posts as I remember in 2009 when I was a reader only myself, but C3 still beats C5 and C4 leads for years already, so there's no reason (IMHO) to worry about it.

about new unit suggestion I would rather prefer you'll take your time and avoid getting bored of civ modding. It's a hobby not a job, after all.

Nevetheless, If you would like to try something new, I would suggest trying to to focus on something really missing rather than making further variations of existing units.
Here just few ideas:

- there are no modern combat enginers around. This gap could be easily filled by adding just one more animation to existing units. As a matter of fact combat engineers are dressed (and use to train and fight) just like normal infantry so existing default, death, run etc could be ok.

- modern military contractors (I know there is a unit from Wyrmshadow but has different scale and animation)

- more MG units to couple with your existing infantry (when not already done)

- modern US military (ACU or digital camo patterns)

Yes that's one reason why I always have so many projects going on at once, I get bored I can switch to something else. Hopefully one day I can finish at least one major project.

-Combat engineer would be easy enough to do. Just add a worker animation to my riflemen.

-I don't know if everyone will get a MG or RPG, but I will try to get some for the major civs. Unless they use woodland camo, or camo that looks close enough to a unit already made.

-US military is of course on the list
Actually one unit is done, its technically a generic unit, but I based it off of the US army.

The modern units, they are all rendered, I forget what I have, I think only 3-5 still need to be made to FLC.
The pre-Colombian units, I don't know.

Sorry for the delay, I thought I would have more time in December and January, but I never got around to it.
