Work in Progress - Conquests of Might and Magic III

A demo of AoM? Try getting some of the Expansion pack units too :P

I need to check out to see how easy or tough it is to convert a unit from AoM before continuing, so the demo should allow me to go through the process first. For instance, converting units from Disciples II would have been close to impossible, the images were stored in a .FF fastfile format, and from the looks of it, that format is a binary format, so it cannot be read, unless decompiled first or grabbed directly from memory during runtime (what I said might not be right on, but it would take a great deal of work).

After about an hour, I converted Izual from D2. I initially thought there was going to be a problem with offsets due to different Image sizes for each FLC, but they all flow properly in game, so I won't need to worry about adjusting anything too much if I convert any further units.

Since the free JASC Animation Shop has close to no tools to work with at all, the mover tool had to be used to try to align the run.flc with the attack.flc 1 frame at a time (can't even do multiple frames at a time), so I decided not to include the death, default, etc because it would have become an extreme pain in the behind, but this short preview turned out well enough (although it is a little off).

As can be seen, there are some artifacts in the animation, and these are not from Flicster, or SBB... I initally thought they may have come from the D2 image exporter, but the artifacts show up there also, so it's possible that it is just how they are. I cannot clean up the few that there are (too much time if I convert many D2 units), but it is very easy to do.

If I do more D2 units (which I probably will), I will not be resizing any of them due to time constraints, so others can resize them if they choose to do so. Izual in game is quite large :)

EDIT: No Blizzard units will be converted

Warcraft 3? It's been ages since I played it so not sure if the view is the same as Civ 3.

I found a link in an old thread to a site that had heeps of Diablo II (I think - never played it) gif conversions. I'll find it when I get home from work. You could get tons of new units from there.
Diablo II may come in handy, as these conversions are as easy as AoW would have been (perhaps even easier/quicker), can batch export the .DCC images to any file format with Magnenta Background. I'm not sure how much use those graphics would get here at CFC, but many look pretty good for a 9+ year old game.

How many would be interested in having all Diablo 2 units converted over for use in Civ 3? If there are many who think they would be useful, I will consider doing them. I am testing the conversion of Izual to Civ 3 format so I can see how long each will take.

WARNING ! WARNING ! WARNING !

DON`T USE BLIZZARD`S WORK ! THEY LIKE EATING HEADS OF CONVERTING CIV-MODDERS !
No ,really Blizzard is not pleased if you use their work.;)
If you don`t like ending up in front of a judge ,don`t use their work.
Even asking will not help you ! So be warned.

DELETE YOUR PREVIEW !!!

Thanks for the heads up General. Preview and file was deleted, and post was amended that no units will be converted. Had no idea Blizzard would be so forceful with a conversion. Thankfully, I have spent no other time with any converstions. That is strange though, it is like free advertising for their products.

Tom

That`s not what they think about it. Forget about Warcraft too.

But feel free to contact them ... ,maybe they have re-considered.
(Changing times are changing me;))
But bad chances I think ,because they have just brought out a new Patch. That means that they are still supporting it.
And they are famous for saying NO

Busy getting the rest of the units into the mod, so I can get rid of the warrior. There probably won't be too many new updates until I can get the unit graphics finished, then I may do a couple test games, and start work on a small HoMM scenario (to test out some things, such as portal teleportation in Civ 3). During all the small amount of meantime I have, I may start looking into the process of making leaderheads, as I believe I have all the prog's needed. It would be nice to have a Queen Catherine Ironheart, etc... to speak to during negotiations.

Tom

Ah. So once you'll be done with the mod (without scenarios) you'll post it?

Ofc, you would then update it with the scenarios, right?

Half correct ;). I will post it with a scenario included (so it doesn't just have the epic game, which many aren't fond of). If others make scenario's, the initial scenario with the game will be what they would have to base it off of, since there are values in a Epic Game that won't work will in a Scenario.

If beta testing is done, that would be with just the Epic. I have no idea how a beta test would be done though, or if it is done in Private forums that can be set up here .

But I still need to make the Enroth maps, etc... which will be able to be played as an Epic game as well. I should have all but a 2 or 3 creatures in the mod within a week or so (my goal at least). Then I will go from there... it's tough to give an overall percentage of what is done at this point, but it may be further along than I think it is.

Yes, I will continue making and posting scenario's over time (there's no shortage of them :)).

Ah, I see now :p Thanks for clearing that up.

Here are a few screenshots and descriptions of the game as I continue to playtest.

The Greater Basilisk is relaxed and comfortable in it's natural swamp/marsh habitat, yet is ready to petrify any enemy that comes close.

Tensions mount on the Conflux-Eeofol border, as a variety of Elementals (Air, Ice, and Fire) are spotted near the border. The Cerberus is on fire (literally) about this, and the Demons call for reinforcements.

Bracada, at peace with their neighbors, have finally brought their first Naga Queen into their ranks; although strong magic is the Tower specialty.

The stench and smell of the undead have begun polluting the swamp-land. The wretched Necromancers and Wraiths will turn any enemy against itself with it's unholy powers.

One aspect that will definitely need much testing is each civilizaition's strengths (to make sure none are overpowered). Each civ has different lines it can follow. For instance, the Dungeon can build it's Level 3 creature building after it has built it's Level 1 creature building; whereas the Castle Level 3 creature building cannot be built until it has it's Level 4 creature building (providing they have the appropriate resources to do so). So in theory, this means the Dungeon can access a more powerful creature quicker than the Castle civ can.

My hopes are that this will not make the Dungeon more powerful; in the way that the buildings produce these creatures. Higher level units are not produced as often, and the creatures of different civ's all have varying stats, so this should keep things somewhat on a level playing field... but that assumption will have to be put to the test when Beta testing starts (the sooner the better!).

The layout of the map of Antagarich is complete. The terrain in this pic is merely fill as of now, while I finish putting in the correct terrain, rivers, etc. This map is 186x202, I may make some smaller ones as well. The map is exact based off the original, but has been modified to an isometric view from the overhead view of the original maps.

This map will look different from the one below due to the fact that all maps of any size are smashed, squeezed, and stretched by Civ3 to fill the size of the preview box.

Here is one of the original maps provided by Roland Ironfist.

Wow, it's absolutely perfect. An excellent recreation! Just one thing - you may also like to add Emerald Isle, which appears in Might and Magic VII. On the far right of the map, vertically parallel to east Nighon:

It doesn't show up on other maps due to its remoteness, but for this project's purpose I'm sure there's a use for such an obscure place :)

And for sea landmarks, you might be able to use this:

By the way, the northmost Bracadan region in and around the city named Spyre is actually a desert... I know this seems to contrast with the snowy Bracada mountains directly south, but they're at a far, far higher altitude, hence the frost. Best of luck!

I hope you have a super depiction of Catherine Ironfist. She had a great outfit in the open splash. I don't recall Krewlod and Vori cold not be access in game. I rememebr going to one of the EEE conventions in LA and seeing the demo for MMVII and its use of HOMMIII stuff.

I still need to PM one of the moderator's to see how Beta testing is done here for when that starts.

Thanks Roland, I will add Emerald Isle... as I think I remember seeing it on another map. As for the sea landmarks, I could use LM terrain to add some of those in. I filled in terrain for the preview, but getting it right will probably take some time... as I go through and do the terrain, I will post pic's so perhaps what I get incorrect, you can help me by noting some of it out.

I am trying to get all the creatures I need completed right now, and I am very close to finishing. Once I get that done, I will start trying to make leaderheads I need; such as Catherine Ironfist in that bomb outfit (although I have never made one), the tuturial that is available here seems fairly straightforward, so I should be able to make the ones I need.

There isn't a set way to do beta testing around here. The ball's entirely in your court :)
