Why did we decline Ethiopia or Carthage as vassals? We are trying to play domination, right? The good thing about voluntary vassals is that they don't ever say no to demands from us. Usually what I try to do is to buy peace with the potential vassals' enemies using techs, then vassalize them.

China should be completely crushed when we have nukes (they've got too many wonders that we need).
 
We are progressing as planned, good job BurnEmDown! I think we should steal biology next and trade for democracy, corporation (the beakers came from an event) and nationalism at almost any cost. Otherwise we'll always be backwards..

@AP: Don't know about Ethiopia, but Carthage was waging wars that would have required us to declare war on India and Japan, not worth it at the moment.

We should take China or Turkey out first and we definetly don't need nukes to crush China.
 
1900 Maria Konnenkova steals Nationalism (more immediate benefits with Nationhood than biology IMHO, especially espionage). Wait to switch for Confucio Redentor. Novgorod puts on hold Research Institue to organize a mission to Tashkent (espionage should cost less than Bukhara with Confucianism there...). We invest more in Radio as we need the wonder asap, we'll recover money later. Y. Zaruvina sent to Taskhent. Stopped construction of useless roads (they contribute to global warming AFAIK) and started to reorganize improvements around Kiev (bit more production).

interturn: China builds Eiffel Tower and Confucio Redentor in the same turn (we now officially hate them :P ).

1902 as AP resident I had nothing interesting to propose. Switch to Nationhood (not yet Free Religion because we would loose religion bonus for espionage, and I think we should mainly steal from now on). Switch research to Steam Power (Radio became superlow priority since the useful wonders are built). Established the KGB (Interpol) in Moskva. Konnenkova is sent to Tashkent.

1904 nothing to report (+50gpt and +25% espionage with Nationhood).


Will continue later... meanwhile, since our strategy was shaken a bit, what to do now ? Prepare to conquer China/Turkey ?
 
We could have vassalized Ethiopia, but I think that we first need to get ourselves in a good technological position.

Onedreamer, Invading China is now our top priority and without them we will definitely always be behind. Our spies could maybe cause some troubles with civic switches, Then when they collapse we could easily take the remaining cities (but we need to be prepared so that Turkey or others won't take too much).
 
Why steal Nationalism, when our vassal was researching it to us???:confused:

We should definetly attack China first! They have all the juicy wonders for us: Christo Redentor, Pentagon, Statue of Liberty, etc.
 
I highly doubted we would be able to get it via trade, and other valid candidates were steel and biology but since we are so behind in techs I thought it would be better to take something to improve our espionage which will be our main source for gaining techs. I should be able to take both steel and biology in my turns.

China and Turkey have a defensive pact IIRC, attacking one means attacking both, so it's not extremely easy. Before we can get a hold of Christo Redentor I doubt we will really need it.
Vassalizing Ethiopia and/or Carthage isn't the best idea for now. Carthage is at war with Japan (Ethiopia don't know, but probably it's not at peace if it wants to be vassalized spontaneously), and since it's now obvious we will need to expand in Turkey and China, we probably don't need more contemporary wars.

I can use the Great Eng. to build olympic games in Moscow in 1 turn, what do you think ?
 
Ethiopia is a vassal of Mali now.
 
Don't use the GE for Olympic park! It would be wasted as we don't need a GA right now. You should assign another city with a decent production to build the OP, but make sure that we don't want any other national wonder in that city. And since Moskva has the Trading Company, we should build Wall Street in there too, not OP. Save the GE for another GA.
 
I say we turn off research and devote all money to espionage until we're at least caught up. By caught up, I mean: AL and fission. Then devote all research to rocketry.
 
If we are willing to give up a chance at UHV-2-goals, we could 1) try to get China to declare war on us, 2) let them take Smolensk, then 3) rely on General Winter and airships and clean up their weakened units as they move northwest.

Of course, that first step above might be impossible. So, as a backup, just have a solid defense against Turkey (at Buryngrad and at sea), then declare war on China-Turkey, then steps 2 and 3 as above.

I agree we don't build Olympic Park until we are ready to change to our permanent civics.

Edit: Or just wait, building up forces and stealing techs until 1950, get the UHV-2-goals Golden Age, and then change civics and unleash war, for better or worse.
 
Uhm I don't understand what's the point to change civics before or after a golden age. Stability is the last of our issues right now.


1904 Confucianism in Tashkent

1906 Research Institutes built in the most productive cities. Refused a Defensive Pact offer from Ragnar (they're at war with China-Turkey, we join them later). Started Olympic Park in Moskva (there's already Trading Company there, note: this one is better if built in ports). Ironworks should go to Jaroslavl', our only city with a river. Stables began in Astrakhan. Tashkent still costs more espionage than Bukhara but it's nearer so I decide to stay here, though we should maybe cause unrest after stealing more techs so that it will flip since it's in a really annoying location. Told Khmer that researching Democracy is a good idea for them.
100 turns count down started.

1908 Declared war on Aztecs on request from Pacal. Aztecs are worse enemies to the whole world and are doomed. Pacal could trade Democracy with us later.

Sent all suitable troops on march to Smolensk. Upgraded Muskets in Buryngrad.

1910 Astrakhan starts training more Cossacks. Frankfurt builds Observatory (before the library!) but German troublemakers cause a revolt.

1912 Congress due in 2 turns. I bet the dirty capitalists are ready to demand some city from us...

1914 More institutes built (I'm building Airships). Steam Power completed. Started on Corporation (trade routes will help). Tashkent flips (GRRR). It was sitting on a coal resource. I disband it. We gained a rifleman but lost some spying turns... my bad, I apologyze. We have two more coal resources, of these 3 only one is in city range - of Carycin. Corporation is due in one turn so I lower science to 50% and increase espionage to 20%.

1916 Corporation increased our gpt considerably. I start on Radio again (2 turns) to have a tech more for trade. Steam Power and Communism to Germany for Democracy, World Map and 250 gold (they are now Friendly).
Congress of Oslo:
Tlacopan (Aztec) goes to USA. I asked for Amsterdam but no luck. Victoria conviced the Congress that Odessa should be English. Since France and Portugal voted yes I give it up (I later found even Scandinavia voted yes... the traitors!). Fort-de-France goes to Scandinavia.

interturn: Spain cities declared independance from foreign domination.

1918 Jaroslavl' starts on Levee (only city where we can build it, sigh).

1920 Radio researched. Started Mass Media (=> can trade more techs). Started National Gallery in Smolensk and queued Wall Street in Novorossijsk.
Chinese cities are defended with an average of 3 Infantry (most with 2 promotions) per city. They also started building Marines and Artillery.

I think we can not always wait the canonic 5 turns for spying anymore. We are producing 1200 esp. a turn anyways and I started a few Bureaus, we need military techs FAST if we really want to wage wars and win in a timely manner. Anyways, I haven't done it but two spies are in Bukhara and they can steal Steel and subsequently Railroad from the Vikings (maybe wait a few turns for the second because you will have a chance penalty otherwise). Up to Nody or whoever is next to decide. I also queued one more spy in Leningrad. Vikings are researching at very fast pace so they are a good target for stealing for quite many techs still. I organized worker pairs for railroads in Moscow and Kiev.

Good riddance of Odessa--trashy city site with tundra. You probably noticed an immediate dip in our science cost after that. :D
AL and industrialism should be priority (cannons are serviceable, don't need artillery) to take out the Chinese!

I agree that we should research AL --> Industrialism and steal other techs mainly steel, railroad and combustion. Still wouldn't build the OP in Moskva though!

I guess we have to wait a bit to see whether Nody is still in.
 
I initially put to Assembly Line then I thought we'd probably get it in the same time via stealing and that with Mass Media we can trade it (can we?) for more. Anyways, Mass Media doesn't even have one turn into it so anyone who is next can change it. Ragnar has Steel and finished Railroad and is doing Combustion now.

I strongly recommend Ironworks in Jaroslavl because with levee and fresh water and among the top 4 production (even without levee) it seems the best location.

Decide to steal biology from the Vikings with only 10% discount (they are unstable and may be liable to collapse, wasting all our espionage on them; also, we need medicine to protect against plague and biology is good for cities that have stopped growing) Nodygrad starts National Park.
2. 1924 America founds Construction Company...bah, we commies don't need corporations! We steal steel from the Vikings. Because Odessa is much closer, steal from the English is cheaper, so I switch espionage to them. All science to research Mass Media in 2 turns
3. 1926 2 foreign spies caught in our territory.
4. 1928 Mass media done, use the GE sitting in Moscow to build UN quickly (still need 3 turns). (the idle GP is probably going to be wasted) Switch to Medicine (nobody has it yet). England declares war on Aztecs. I bribe the Indians to make peace with Carthage and thus get the latter as a spontaneous vassal. Exchange some nonessential resources to buff them up.
5. 1930 Unremarkable
6. 1932 Argh, German revolt in Frankfurt. Spies reach Odessa.
7. 1934 Ethiopia wants us to be their master, I choose not to (they only have 3 cities). Japan declares war on Aztecs. UN is built and I vote for us to be Party Chairman (AKA UN secretary). National Gallery done in Smolensk. Medicine learned--feel free to upgrade units from now on since they can't die from plague. Switch to Artillery next (we do need Rocketry and China already has it, but we need to get it quickly).
8. 1935 Of course Napoleon wins (with his UP) the UN secretariat. :mad: We only got about 130 votes vs his 1052 votes. Aztecs collapse.
9. 1936 Ouch, the Germans collapse! All kinds of independent cities are influenced by us but we didn't flip a single city.

10. 1937 As expected, Burkara goes Indy, so I recall the spy sitting there. Turkey's culture expands and Buryngrad is shrinking again, so I draft an infantry unit there.

To do:
1. Devote all espionage to England and steal from them Railroad, Fascism (they are about to learn it) and whatever they might have. Odessa was a blessing in disguise after all.
2. China needs to be crushed. 2 nukes between their 4 contiguous cities will probably suffice.
3. Research Fission next (Industrialism can be stolen). There's a GS in our capital which can partially bulb it.
4. Hollywood has not been built yet, we need factories and coal plants. (20 moves for a Stock Exchange?! No wonder we're losing)
5. GA is about to start when Moscow finished OP.
6. When spies are traveling to their destinations, it's best to devote all gold to science, while when they are close to their targets, all gold to espionage.
7. Continue drafts at Buryngrad (because the city is shrinking fast).
8. Some indy cannon is fast approaching our western borders, I redeployed some cossacks over there.
9. Disband any German city that flips to us (e.g. Bremen or Munchen)
 
Looking good, let's just hope that Napoleon (shouldn't he be DeGaulle by now?) won't ban nukes, as I think the AI is programmed to easily accept the resolution (we'll have to defy if it comes up).

-Some civs have plastics that we don't, but I switched all espionage towards the vikings so that we can steal it from them
-We don't need to worry about the stationary bonuses, if we want something let's just steal it straight away, like plastics from the vikings
-We'll get satellites in two turns, if we run one turn at 90% science, only America has it
-As soon as MP is finished in Jaroslav, we should start building nukes, before that we should train tanks everywhere; naturally we should finish the coal plants first
 
I think with tanks we didn't need nukes, but anyways...

We need to get a move right now or we will win by score. If this is the plan, I might as well drop now as I'm not really interested in such an outcome. We still need to unite the workers of the world ;)
