Working / Non-Working System Configs

Bah, dont just post dxdiags, theyre way to wordy for these purposes :)

CPU: Intel Celeron 2.5Ghz
Memory: 1GB
Video Card: ATI Radeon X700 Pro
Video Card driver number:
Soundcard: Uhhh Integrated.
Civ Version: Canadian Retail Version
Software: Fraps, Windows Firewall, Microsoft Wireless Networking Service.
Problems: The Famous ATI Bug. Fixed by using the extractor program from the Civ IV site on the art file. did not reinstall anything.

Comments: Sluggish unit movements, some units try to take a second movement when their movements are finished. Runs on minimum settings, but I believe something is wrong with my system, as other games run like crap, and radeon 9800 users get better framerates than me. I get 10-20 fps in the ancient age.

CPU: Intel P4 3.2 Ghz, 1024 kb L2 cache
Memory: 1 GB PC3200
Motherboard: ASUS P5P800 chipset Intel 865PE
Video: Radeon 9600XT 128 MB
Sound: Audigy 2
OS: Windows XP Pro SP2

latest drivers for Video & Sound cards.

Game frequently crashes, sometimes to desktop, sometimes it also sets it to 4bit color and 640x480 resolution (i normaly have 1600x1200), sometimes my PC reboots itself.
Sound issues; whenever a movie plays sound is choppy/distorted.
Other: sometimes game freezes, but it usually unfreezes itself after like 1 minute. weird. perhaps it was thing about crashing but opted against it? :p

CPU: AMD AthlonXP 2700+
Memory: 1.0 GB DDR 3200
Video Card: Asus GeForce2 MX 400 64MB AGP 4X
VC Driver: 81.85
Soundcard: On-Board Nvidia Soundstorm
Civ Version: US Pre-Order CDs
Software: I shut down all process' including all Firewall/Antivirus/AntSpyware & unplug from internet
Problems: Game plays great on High settings @ 1024X768, lags a bit late in game 1950AD+. Choppy sound during intro & wonder movies.

Anyone else notice that this game seems to have less problems on AMD CPU's?

Works!

Notebook - Acer Aspire 5024 WLMi

CPU: AMD Turion 64, 1,8 Ghz
Memory: 1Gb
Video Card: ATI Mobility X700, 128MB (PCIe)
Video Card driver number: Acer stock driver
Soundcard: Realtek AC97 integrated
Civ Version: European DVD release
Other Important Software: F-Secure anti virus and firewall
Problems? No other problems exept sluggish later in the game
Comments: The game worked without having to resort to any weird fixes or stuff. Just installed and started playing. Also, my screen is 15,4 inch widescreen with 1280 x 800 resolution. Not a problem with that. Graphics set to medium and animations are on. Just got the game today so I havent messed with more options...

Works!

Desktop - Built myself

CPU: Intel 2,8 Ghz

Video Card: Nvidia 6600GT, 256 MB, AGP

Other Important Software: F-Secure anti virus and firewall
Problems? No other problems exept sluggish later in the game
Comments: No fixes needed here either, worked right out of box...

I really don't want to reload Windows XP so, after reading a previous thread that a patch is coming out next week, I'll wait a little. Here's my specs:

CPU: Intel 2.4 Ghz
Memory: 1Gb Corsair 266 mhz
Video Card: ATI Radeon 9600 (128 mb)....drivers updated
HDD: 80 Gb Maxtor....defragged
Soundcard: Sound blaster Live 24...drivers updated (new card)
Civ Version: US Collectors Addition
OS Version: Windows XP Pro SP2
Other Important Software: Norton Anti virus, Ad-Aware, Spybot S&D
Problems? Won't load past XML check. Had to load it under a new user.
Comments: I loaded the game under a new user and it will run there but, goes to a black screen towards the middle of the game (2hrs) and is extremely sluggish with minimal settings.

Now, the game does run fine on my sons AMD64 3200 with intergrated 128mb ATI video and intergrated sound. It just runs really slow by end of game and I'm getting virtual memory errors, even after I reboot. Settings are medium.

CPU: AMD Athlon XP 1800+

CPU: AMD Athlon XP 2500+ (1.8 GHz)
Memory: 1 GB PC2700 DDR
Video Card: eVGA NVIDIA GeForce 6600 GT 128 MB (BIOS: 5.43.02.57.08)
Video Driver: 81.85
Sound: Creative Audigy 2 ZS (Driver: 5.12.4.522)
CIV: US Pre-order CDs
OS: Windows XP Home SP2 updated through Oct 2005 patch set
Other Software: ZoneAlarm Firewall, AVG (Free) anti-virus, PrevX Intrusion Detector. Microsoft Antispyware
Problems: Game ran out-of-box at 1024x768.

CPU: AMD Athlon64 3600+
Memory: 1Gb
Video Card: nVidia 6600 GT 128MB
Video Card driver number: 71.89; Bios 5.43.02.36
Soundcard: SB Audigy2
Other Software: None on my playing machine - it's all installed on the PC I use as router/FW, so I guess it doesn't matter...
Problems? From time to time the textures get screwed up - rarely happens though.
I have to run the game on medium settings and 1280*1024, high settings sometimes cause lag, otherwise, the game runs smooth - short loading times, no crashes...

My second submission, following some severe hardware failures...

CPU: Intel Celeron 2500 CPU
Memory: 1.5GB PC3200 400mhz.
Video Card: ATI Radeon X850
Video Card driver number: Omega Driver v2.6.75a (Catalyst 5.10a)
Soundcard: ex. Onboard C-Media sound.
Civ Version: Canadian Retail (Like american, but with a PDF manual, and a french poster...)
Other Important Software: Windows Firewall, Fraps.
Problems: Just gotta take one more turn...

Comments: My original setup didn't work too well, and a few days after posting it, my 250w power supply crapped out and toasted my motherboard (still not sure if it just surged, or was overloaded, but nothing else in my house was damaged...miraculously, my CPU was also undamaged!) So I had to buy a new PSU and Mobo, and decided to grab some RAM while I was at it. I also picked up a new video card (My old one was AGP, my new board is PCI-e) Much better performance. Ended up spending about 700 bucks, but it really wasn't just for Civ, more of a motherboard smells like burnt toast thing...

Intel 3Ghz
1GB PC3200 RAM
ABIT IS7-E2 motherboard
MSI 6800GT AGP 256MB RAM (running older drivers 66.93 ? 10/29/2004)
RealTek AC'97 Audio
Windows XP Home SP2
US Civ4
Other software : none. XP customized for maximum performance, no unneeded processes/programs.

Problems : None. Game played at 1280x1024 with all graphic settings maxed out. No performance issues, but I haven't played any huge maps yet. No graphical glitches.

Working, and Working very well:

Memory: 1gb PC 3200
Video Card: EVGA 6800GT
Video Card Driver: Whatever it came with

CPU: P4 Northwood 2.80 @ 2.94 GHz.
Memory: 1GB Corsair PC3200 DDR RAM (Limited to PC2200 speeds, as I just found out, because of my motherboard).
Video Card: eVGA GeForce 6800 128MB AGP 4x running @ 400/800 speeds.
Video Card driver number: 81.85
Soundcard: ex. Soundblaster Audigy 1
Civ Version: US Pre-Order CDs.
Other Important Software: McAffee VirusScan, Speedfan, PopUpStopper.
Problems? On rare occasions the map in the bottom right of the screen will get garbled, or the system will hiccup for a brief second or two. Nothing big.

Comments: Haven't really come across any huge issues with the game. Some minor things like the game hiccuping every now and then, but I've yet to run the game without having some other memory/CPU hog running in the background yet. :D

my system is about 3-4 years old now.

CPU: p4 2.4ghz 533 fsb

Comments: the computer i use at work had all types of problems with this game. Ill have to get the specs when i log in from work. I ended up changing the video card, i think it was only 32mb. Its about an AMD200+ with 512mb ram.
