Yup, I'll be here to check up on things if there are any issues.

BTW, If anyone does some comparisons using the fastciv.exe I'm interested to know how much difference it makes (if any).
I'm using fastciv.exe and it decreases loading times 10-15%, at least for me :)

Well, I tried to start a thread for the FastCIV.exe in the Utilities forum, and it was locked before anyone could even reply to it. Would someone read the post and see if you would consider it advertising.

i saw it yesterday before it was locked.

again, why don't you simply post the thing here instead of re-routing us to another site?

this is probably why the mods aren't too happy about it.

who says you can't credit those responsible?

How can I post it here without linking to where I downloaded it from? Does Civfanatics allow for file sharing/storage somewhere. I've tried asking the mod who locked the thread what I can do, but he's not really helping right now.

you can upload the file either through the "easy file upload" feature at the bottom of each page (2MB limit i think) or you can PM a mod (thunderfall) and request permission to upload the file onto the CFC server. you'll need an FTP (file transfer program) to do it though.

I downloaded this scenario, and, while it definetly does what it set out to do- create the most accurate modern-day scenario ever- playability and fun suffers greatly from the lack of units at the start (not enough defensive units to defend all my cities), and from the huge building times. Both these aspects of the scenario are realistic, but greatly discourage war, which, as in any scenario with this many civs, breaks out in the first few turns even without the player starting it. The modern day can't realistically be represented by Civ3. The AI can't grasp the political situation (although the USA often goes to war with Iran early in the game), so many unrealistic alliances and wars occur.

Don't get me wrong- this scenario has great potential! The loading times are astounding for the scenario's size, and I love the new units, leaderheads, and licence trading. These are all very unique to this scenario, and are part of the reason I believe it can be great. Obviously, a LOT of time went into making it. I think a few changes due to the limitations of the AI is all it requires to be one of, if not the, best scenaios ever.

You can turn the AI to "least agressive", but in a scenario with so many civs, war inevitably breaks out in the first few turns.

I suggest adding special city-defending units, like a police force, so that the AI dosn't charge into undefended cities left and right. I also suggest greatly decreasing the building times of units.

Of less importants, if you can find a graphics designer, animated leaderheads of every leader would be cool.

When ever I have decreased the AI agression it only decreases how agressivly they attack other civs, but it does not decrease the frequency of wars.

There used to be more units in World 2003, but the unit conversions were changed so there was less units on the map. This has helped to speed up the game quite a bit. Also the building times are this way to represent how long it would actually take to produce the units. For example the unit conversion for Infantry is 10,000 infantry per unit. It would take a several months to train and equipt 10,000 infantry in real life, therefore it takes equally as long in the scenario. Realism was the goal of this scenario, but for your own pleasure you can edit the rules to speed things up.

Animated leaderheads would be cool, but they would need to be kept up to date. If someone wants to make them and contribute to the scenario, they would get proper recognision for their work.

Thanks for the input :goodjob:

Visitors can now download the utilities (i.e. fastciv). You don't have to register or log in for these, but you do have to log in to download the scenario.

That explains a lot...

I understand why the scenario is as it is, but I think most people excpect a scenario this big to have big loading times. That's one of the things that makes this such a good one. That's why I don't suggest adding lots of new units to the map. Adding a "police" unit to defend cities would be enough, so the AI doesn't just take all undefended cities before defensive units can be built there.

As for the building times, the police unit could also be cheap, in order to create a defensive army quickly if you find yourself suddenly at war. Obviously, it couldn't be a very good unit, just good enough to defend against weaker offensive units, and keep the AI from taking undefended cities all the time.

I understand you can draft units also, but as a democracy, this isn't always a good idea (Besides, why would a city draft partisans?).

Thanks for listening to my suggestions, and keep up the great work. I can't wait for The World 2005!

i dont know if anyone has come to you with this one yet, so here it is. i tried to see the civ entry for a russian unit and it crashed the game :(
