World 2004 - Updated

making cities size 1 to start is a trade-off i was willing to make in order to:
a) significantly decrease initial load times and the first few dozen turns as well
b) even the playing field a bit and not cause any imbalances w/ production/science levels
c) city growth occurs so fast anyway that it really doesn't matter if it was "pre-placed" as a size 11 or whatever it is.

large maps = long load times which equates to a lot of staring which is, well, uhh...

smaller maps = much quicker load times which makes the anxious civer like myself a bit more content.

sure there isn't alot of troops at the outset of TCW. all of those extra start units slow it down even more.

as for TCW "realism", you don't get much more "real" than 249 units, unique units for every civ, multiple upgrade paths and dozens of flavor improvements and wonders.

Those are some of the good details I was refering to. I think that comparing TCW to W2004 or vice-versa is hard to do. They both have strengths and weaknesses, but that's ultimatly up to the player to decide what they like.

BTW For anyone interested, here is the list of units/improvements for World 2004: http://mil-sim.net/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=57

Sorry but...I think this map sucks. It's the loading time....
I think you could have found a more intellegent way to tell us that you don't like the scenario. Instead you come out saying it sucks and you like another scenario better.

Once again, El Justo, don't take offense to any of this. I enjoyed your scenario and realize how much work was put into it. I just thought Nooble's post was kinda rude and uncalled for.

Oh yeah, I was wondering, why wasn't there St. John's on Newfoundland? (In Canada).

Newfoundland was empty and it was like no one ever settled there.

It wouldn't be that far from Halifax's culture boundry, and Canada's number of cities is low to reflect their total population. Plus there is an air base near where St. Johns would be. If there was more cities in Canada and Russia to fill in the gaps the game would be even slower.

Hey, great scenario good work

I noticed that when i installed this mod it changed the original Civ 3 Conquests screen with a black one for World 2004. How can i get the old one back? And how to uninstall the mod (if needed)?
Thanks!!

To uninstall the mod you just have to delete the World 2004 folder and the World 2004 biq.

Cool Thanks. I did that. But how do you get the title screen (with all the playing options) back to the original?
Thanks

Go into the Directory ..Civilization III\Conquests\Art. You will see the files for the title screen here. Rename the file x_title.pcx to something else, for example W2004title.pcx. Then rename the file x_title_backup.pcx to x_title.pcx. This should give you the samurai title screen again.

Annoucement:

It's looking like v1.1 is going to be released to the public real soon, check for updates in the next few days.
I believe you mean Version 1.2. If this happens, many of the minor bugs have been corrected and the scenario has been further refined :) .

Is their going to be work on a World 2005? having Iraq and Lebenon being independent civs? also Iran getting nuclear weapons? could be much faster if possible on a smaller map?

I think we're waiting for Civ4 to come out, then we'll start on World 2006. In World 2004v1.2 Iraq and Afghanistan are one civ, Iran and Syria are one civ, and we added a Central Asia civ that is Mongolia and former USSR contries in Asia. Making Lebenon its own civ would mean we would have to combine two existing civs, and that would be hard to do and keep the realism. Yes, Iran should get at least one small nuke, maybe the USA won't declare war on the first turn every time then. We have talked about making a smaller map, but it really crams the cities together in Europe and the Middle East. It would also make it much harder to get Israel and Lebenon even close to the right locations on the map.

Most likely no, because we don't know when Civ4 is going to be released, which would kind of cancel out all of our work :p. I heard late November and then like June so it's looking like a no for World 2005.

the game seems like that but the game is still loading. its a huge scenario so it will take lots of time to load. try a savegame which loads in 15 minutes
