World of Tanks Beta

I've heard the servers are reset on launch date with all progress lost. :(

I'm debating whether or not to buy the medium package.

That's true. The developers want everyone to start from the beginning so that when the excepted new players arrive after release, there aren't any Mauses or others scaring the little ones. :p

and to that I saw bah, hambug. There were Mauses scaring me when I joined and there wasn't any matchmaking, my pz3a fought king tigers ;;

I thought you poopsocked the hell out of the Beta and had no intention of playing any more since you had your fill of all the content. ?

See you on the battlefield.

Well, I had a goal to try and get into the top 500 ranked players by release. I am around 580 or so.

Also, one of my real life friends was on the AoD team that won one of the Americas server Ural Steel tourneys and he now has a all expenses trip paid to Russia to play against those guys for prizes.

Plus its a hard game to put down. Its a lot like a traditional first person shooter, but with tanks instead. You can get in, play a bunch of games relatively quickly, and get out if you need to be flexible for the wife and kids. Hard to find a game thats fun, takes only minutes to play, and offers a decided multi-player challenge.

Well, there wont be any maus' at start, but there will be premium heavy tanks, i.e. like the one in the pre-release package. Thats just as scary as a Maus to any tier 1 thru 3 tank....

We'll be getting at least a KV220 for being beta testers to grind and face off premiumn tanks at the start. I'd imagine the more hardcore players sinking in money to grab camo nets, speed loaders which will be pretty tough for the rest of us.

Also you'll probably run into a maus. (i.e press account)
Took one out with my little hetzer when close beta started off. The chat was very alive when that showed up in our match.

At least the launch is in sight. (Six months of beta. good thing I stop playing five months ago)

How do you figure that? I think everything is being reset. Some peeps are supposedly getting gold AFTER release for winning some events.

EDIT: Though I guess if it's premium it could be up on day 1.

They changed it to a M4E2

M4A2E4 Preliminary Specifications
M4A2E4 is going to be a gift tank for the participants of Word of Tanks closed beta.

Preliminary specs are as follows:

You answered your own question. Premium tanks are part of the pre-release special offer and beta test rewards. During beta there were indeed several tourneys that the winners were offered Gold upon release as a prize. I think a buddy of mine in AoD won 2500 gold that way.

Thats not a bad tank for a premie. I like the rate of fire on that gun. Very nice.

89mm of sloped frontal armor ain't too shabby

You needed 1000 battles to get this tank ... LOL
I had no idea about this.

lol, you didn't have 1k battles?

I have something close to 3k IIRC.

Did anyone here have problems getting what they preordered? Seems like there's lots of complaint threads on the forums at WoT.

Well, World of Tank is now released. Thus far my experience has been good. I didnt have any issues getting what I pre-ordered, although there was one small hiccup. I had received my email with the link and redemption code on it, but when you hit the link you got a popup for a 'secure or unsecure view'. If you pick 'secure' as most obviously would, you get a jacked up view of the WoT homepage.....so you have to pick 'unsecure' and then you get the normal email/password login and then redemption code link. Once I did that, the tanks and gold showed up no problem.

Already having the beta client installed, the patch up was minimal....maybe 5 mins at the most on my pc. Same password, same login, and voila I'm in.

You get the 3 nations starter tanks, and whatever premiums you qualified/bought. In my case I had the A-30 (I bought the light package), the M4E4 american med, and I also had a russian Stuart (that I had gotten from some time in closed beta and got it again here for some reason).

I ended up selling the stuart for credits, and started playing. And I have to admit, it took me a few games to be back to being used to playing with those lawnmowers with guns (i.e. the starter tanks). Altough, if you end up having a decent game with a win, the doulbe xp you get from your first win of the day in that tank might just take you to elite status right off the bat.

Played a few games in tier 1 and immediately got rid of those tanks to open up slots and bought tier 2 tanks with the case from selling the stuart. More of the same - I was determined to not spend any additional cash on components/upgrades until I hit tier 3 at least and I was able to keep that plan, although it was a bit painful in a few games as I watched my pee-shooter bounce off the sides of Panzer IIs....

My plan is to do down 4 branches at the moment.....German Arty, Russian Heavy and TD, and American Med. I did get all of them up to tier 3 before the night was over last night, and some good upgrades for those as well. Almost got tier 4 in Russian heavy.

Observations.

It seems that the map rotation is set to your tier of tank that you are playing. In tier 1 I only played two maps, Pagorki and Malinovka. Tier 2 open up Ensk, and a few more. Ditto with tier 3.

I am trying to avoid using my gold to convert xp of my premium tanks to free xp, but I am not sure thats a good decision, as doing so would really help me get through the lower tiers quicker. A buddy of mine who was in the top 10 in beta said that most of the competitive clans are using premium tanks only for now and using their gold to covert the xp to free xp and teching up the tree without even playing the lower tier tanks. While that may be a more efficient method, its also more expensive and just sounds a bit less fun to me as playing in some of the low tier battles can be kinda fun if things roll right for you.

Once you hit tier 3 or so, expect to see a LOT of premium tanks at play, and at the lower tiers they are very strong until the upgraded tanks catch up to them. The A30 is tier 4, and the M4E4 is tier 5, so you can expect to see them if you are tier 2 or higher. Breaking into tier 3 cold against those premium tanks was rough, although I did manage to end up with a 52% win percentage at the end of the night, it was still a rough (but still fun) night.

The tier 8 American heavy is currently Godlike and I actually managed to get into one of those playing my tier 5 M4E4. I barely lasted a milli-second once I got into range of those guys. Those things are flat out nasty right now.

Discussion points:

Do you think using premium tanks to convert xp to free xp and spending the gold to do that a good idea right now?

At what tier do you actually upgrade your tanks for better performance? (I started at tier 3).

I'd do the math in a spreadsheet to really figure it out. Is there a chart to calculate what the premium tanks sell for? In general it's a depreciation either way, at least in the beta since you sell a tank at a loss in credits, so my intuition is that it's just best to keep the gold in the bank. I think the best use of gold, short of buying a wanted premium tank is:

1. Up your crew members to 100% experience, if you plan on making that vehicle "elite" (so it can be a gold earner in the future). This makes a big difference in how the game plays, I found. It doesn't make a tier 1 tank fast, but it makes low tier vehicles more fun to play. Most important if the vehicle is to be a gold farmer for you.

2. Buy a small load-out of the odd premium that complements the vehicle (HE, or AP) for use to help decide a close game. I hate this one game where I made 5 arty kills but was like last of 4 vehicles and out of ammo so I lost in the end. Same for the odd time when your tank is savaged, capturing the enemy base and the enemy is rushing to get a shot at you. That premium bullet might help you clinch the game.

3. Save it for buying premium for the odd weekend that you play several hours in a row. I found I'd play a lot some weekend night, and pick it up a few hours the next day after sleeping. The credits and XP you make in premium mode are more than worth it I think.

Myself, I'm thinking of just buying in $7 for now and doing arty since that's probably the easiest way to make money, even better than scouting I think.

On the upgrading, I upgraded just for fun, since credits weren't really hard to get. I feel you need a minimum of 3 tanks to really grind time efficiently at the game, unless you like surfing while waiting for the end of a battle you got killed in. So you might as well have 3 good tanks. IDK, I guess it's the "how much is your time worth?" question again. I'd say my wallet says more than $15 a month is stupid though.
