World of Tanks Beta

A-20 is so-so Havent gotten the hang of scout. I have had fun rushing arty and being a very forward hidden observer. Dosnt come close to the Pz3/4 with its weak gun and slower turning. The view range is excellent I have to really work at using this. Instead of following the heavies and then sacrifing myself to reveal the enemy. I always end up zigzaging when I should be running straight and vice versa.

I had some good times with BT-7 and HE ammo supporting heavies. Stay just a little ahead of the heavies so they can get a first warning, but within gunshot of them so they can help you. Use HE ammo to try to pepper the turret and some AP to try to take out the tracks and be happy you helped bring the prey down. Keep moving and generally they'll either ignore you for the heavy you brought or at least keep moving so they can't get a hit.

AMUSING STORY.

Germany attacked Pearl Habour in worldwar 2.
When corrected that Japan attacked pearl habour
Entire US player population during the match defended the assertion that Germany carried out Pearl Habour

I can understand 1-2 younger players not knowing this.
What worse was the arrogant assesertion that they were right, this kind of trash talk on the server amazes me no end.

A little strange considering the number of "status updates" of people's social accounts saying "haha earthquake is payback for Pearl Harbour".

No seriously

Ignorance is only bound by a lack of creativity.

BTW, I'm finding the American tanks to be a blast now. Got M2 and T2 medium tanks right now.

I think you were taken in as that was also a scene from Animal House where John Belushi's character gives a encouraging speech and includes the Germans attacking Pearl Harbor thing. Its a fairly common 'in joke' for americans.

What amazes me is that people take trash talk seriously.

What are the odds that our match was stacked with US players all being over the age of 40 ? 40 year olds with the ability to trash talk like whinny teenage kids ?

Iam having a blast right now with voice chat and squads.
Nothing like rolling up in a KV and smashing down the entire enemy Heavy line up with your mates in a medium. (2 KV kills 1 T1 was playing tier 5 battles with friends)

On the other hand.
Who told me that the weak spot on the Preorder heavy was the driver observation slit ?
I bounced off it at point blank range you can see clearly that the big 100mm shell hit directly on the drivers fragmention shield.

ATTENTION: KV owners
(and russian heavies)

KV will be separated into KV-1 and KV-2.
Players who have a KV in their garage at the time of the revision will have it replaced with a KV-1. The KV’s crew will be trained for the KV-1.

Additionally players who have researched KV-2’s turret for KV will get a KV-2 with an extra garage slot and the KV-2 will be assigned a 100% crew.

KV-3 moved to tier 7 and the introduction of T-150.

Players who have a KV-3 in their garage at the time of the revision will get a KV-3 in its new status with its existing module and research setup and its old crew. Additionally they will also get a T-150 with a stock setup, extra garage slot, and 100% crew.

IS-4 will be substituted for Object 252.

Players who have an IS-4 in their garage at the time of the revision will get an IS-4 in its new status with old crew, plus they will also get an Object 252 with 100% crew with an extra garage slot.

Damn, when's that happening? Probably no way I could get the KV-2 turret in time, I only have a t-26 on the russian heavy line...

They said the updates would take a while so who knows, you might score one.

I finally got the server to let me buy gold. Looks like it hates IE below v.9 and doesn't like the newest firefox, but is ok with firefox 3.6. I now own a Churchill, a kitted out M2 medium (howitzer, 100% trained crewed skilled in camo) , a M3 light tank (camo specialities too).

Didn't realize how much money a premium tank makes. Made 18K creds for carring one battle by myself. Imagine if I was in premium account mode...

Crap...I just sold my KV3 last night for my IS. :(

So...if the KV3 is going to be tier 7 now....whats going to happen to the IS? Will there be two tier 7 russian heavies?

Luckily, I still have my KV with everything unlocked but the branch to arty.

And GG, I ran my premium tanks quite a bit early on when I needed a lot of cash quick. Now I only run them once a day for the 2x exp on first win as I have around 3 mil credits saved up currently.

Current garage:

A32
KV
IS
SU-100
Grille
M3Lee
M4E8
M4E4
T1 Heavy

3 million! That's sweet. I did sucker myself into going premium and made about 25K credits a few games in a Churchill. Though it is slloooow to drive it.

My garage currently:

VK Leopard (and Luchs and PzKampfwagon II).
M2 Medium with howitzer (my fave ride, only needs the 500,000 gun drive and maybe a cammo net or gun rammer) It's way too much fun to 1 and 2 shot others in the flanks.
Sturmpanzer II (was just going for the biggest tier 2 SPG, and didn't realize the Wespe had a bigger gun).
M3 Stuart.
Churchill.

I think I'll stop collecting at that since the M3 Lee doesn't seem like much fun. The new tech tree looks fun, so I might go for a M24 Chaffe if they add it for real.

GG, this may sound counter-intuitive, but I have like a 61% win ratio in my M3 Lee. Just play it like you would a TD at that tier, and your good to go. Considering that the Lee also has branches off to the SPG, Heavy and Med lines, my plan was to be in it for a good long while. Mine is totally researched except for the arty, and I am about halfway to that.

As to the new tech trees, the word I got from someone who knows people on the test server is that its going to be a long, long while for all those vehicles and changes to occur, and will probably be done in phases.....the first of which is the one FF mentions earlier in the thread.

Speaking of which, I dont think they've mentioned a timeline for that patch either? Anyone have an idea on when it will become a reality? My buddy didnt know and simply suggested checking the forums every few days for new info.

Got this game when it was made public. Like it a lot.

Bought a Leo yesterday. Still have the Luchs, with crew around 96-100%. Should I wait till all of them are 100% before retraining them for the Leo?

Absolutely. Click the little box that says 'crew training' on it so all the exp you would normally get for using it transfers instead to get extra percentage points. Get them up to 100, and then give them a skill. You get to choose from 'camo, repair or firefighting'. Unless your scouting tactic involves running up and hiding in a bush or something, your probably best served by taking repair as that skill as that will get you out of being tracked quicker.

Once you get them up to 100% put them into the barracks, sell off your luchs, and then transfer them over to the leo. You'll have to retrain them for that chassis, and its probably worth it to pay 20k per to make sure you dont loose that much exp due to learning a new chassis.

Things to not do:

1. Dont sell your tank with the crew still inside.
2. Dont 'dismiss' your crew, make sure you send them to the barracks.
3. If you have equipment on the tank you are replacing that is usable by the new tank (like radios, or guns), strip it off first. Otherwise your just selling it at a loss, and then rebuying it at the premium price.
4. If you cant afford to pay the 20k for each crewmember, do it at least for the commander, and probably your gunner. The commander gives a bonus to the rest of the crew based on his experience, and the gunner obviously affects your ability to hit the target.
5. When buying a new tank that you plan to transfer crew too, make sure to buy it without crew by checking that box on the store screen.

Hope that helps.

IDK, but I'd wait until they earned the bonus 10 points in medals first, since those carry over.

EDIT: I didn't know what I was saying. Please delete, mods.

The original message was basically totally at their own speed.

Thanks for the tips MB!

What is this?

Nevermind, it's actually a misunderstanding on my part. I was under the impression that the commander's bonus was actually coming from the crewmember's awards that they earned (e.g. reaching the level of 10 enemy tanks killed), but according to the wiki, awards and achievements have no impact on crew skill.

http://wiki.worldoftanks.com/Crew#Currency

Mob-boss is right according to the wiki, too. The difference would be 10% between paying 20,000 creds or doing it for free. So 10% of 100% is of course 10 points more lost if you do free-train. Though if you're low on credits, you should probably train the commander first, then the driver. For leopard, that's especially good since the commander is the gunner.

World of Tanks Wiki said:
Retraining

You can retrain your crew for a different vehicle, or simply boost their current level. Once a crew member has been recruited, his nationality and role will be locked in, and will not be changeable when retraining. A crew member can also increase his skill in the vehicle he is currently in, as long as the vehicle selected for training is his own.

Just like training, when retraining, you will have three levels to choose from. Retraining a crew member can be done by opening the crew member's profile and selecting the "Training" tab.

CrewTrainingTankAcademy.png Tank Academy

At the cost of 200 gold, this option retrains a crew member to the same level as he was before, but for the new vehicle.

CrewTrainingRegimentalSchool.png Regimental School

At the cost of 20,000 credits, this option retrains a crew member to 75%. If a crew member's primary specialization is below 75%, then his primary specialization after retraining is automatically 75%. If the crew member is above 75% in primary specialization, then after retraining it will be as follows:

If the crew member is retraining to a vehicle of the same class, then the final experience is 90% of the crew member's current experience level.
If the crew member is retraining to a vehicle of a different class, then the final experience is 80% of the crew member's current experience level.

CrewTrainingRapidCourses.png Rapid Courses

This option is free, and retrains a crew member to 50% in primary specialization, which is the absolute minimum that a crew member can be. The final primary specialization level after retraining through rapid courses is as follows:

If the crew member is retraining to a vehicle of the same class, then the final experience is 80% of the crew member's current experience level.
If the crew member is retraining to a vehicle of a different class, then the final experience is 60% of the crew member's current experience level
.

As a leopard owner too, I'd recommend putting gold into the driver at least though, since it's a long haul to getting the final engine upgrade that makes a leopard like a porsche. Without the engine, the leopard plays like a mediocre medium tank. The upgraded cannon isn't particularly special other than harrassing enemy in the rear armor, and makes you a little bit scary to light tanks.

For vehicle modules, I went for ventilation and camo net. My last one will probably be the telescopic sights since I play more like a stealthy scout, just using speed to get to the next location even if under enemy fire.

For secondary specialization, I went with camo, but I think firefighting would be useful, as I have had more than burn out elimination due to fire, after I maxed out the engine.

Also, although its there from your wiki again remember that the penalty for switching crew into a different class of chassis (i.e. from med to a heavy for instance) is doubled.

So in cases where you might have an elite tank or premium tank that you want to switch the crew over to another vehicle, be aware of that.
