In the mood for baseball talk, who's your picks to win the World Series?
I think the Angels lose to the Cardinals in 5 games.

Not the Red Sox vs. Not the Phillies/Cubs

You know, I'm starting to think I have a negative additude about sports ;) Once football season starts, I'm sure I'll cheer up, though.

I'm thinking the same thing......but I'm a Dolphins fan    .
Well, maybe the Phils can win next year  .

I feel like the American League champ will win the Series :scan: , the
strongest teams in my opinion are in the AL. :crazyeye:

Why do you call it world series while every teams are american ?

I think it originally had to do with some newspaper from New York called "The World" or something which sponsored it?... I'm not entirely sure.
But, I do know that two of the teams are technically Canadian! (One from Toronto and one from Montreal) All the others are American, though.

On topic: I have no clue. :)

Actually, the New York World story appears to be a myth:

http://snopes.com/business/names/worldseries.asp

The New York World was established in 1860, just before the Civil War, and it fared poorly throughout the 1870s before being bought up by Joseph Pulitzer in 1883. Over the next half-century, the World was renowned for everything from its "yellow journalism" to its debut of the crossword puzzle; in 1930 it was sold and merged with the Evening Telegram to become the New York World-Telegram. The New York World never had anything to do with the World Series, however, other than being one of the many newspapers to report the results. The modern World Series (like its predecessor series waged between National League and American Association teams from 1884-1890) was so named not because of any affiliation with a corporate sponsor, but because the winner was considered the "world's champion" -- the title was therefore simply a shortened form of the phrase "world's championship series."

Seeing that 100 years ago, baseball was basically only played in the US, the American champion was also automatically the World champion. Ahhh, tradition.

I'll go out on a limb and call all the playoffs
AL East-NY Yankees
Al Central-Minn/Cleveland (pick one. My tribe is red hot right now, and if the can win their series with minn this week, they can make the playoffs)
AL West-I'll go with the Angels here
AL Wildcard-Bo Sox
Angels beat the Bo Sox in 5, Yankees beat Cleveland/Minn in 4. Yankees Beat Angels in 6

NL East-Atlanta
NL Central-St.Loius
NL West-LA Dodgers
NL Wildcard-Chicago Cubs
St.Louis sweeps away atlanta, and the cubbies beat the dodgers in 4. St.Louis beats the cubs in 7.

St.Louis over the Yankees in 6

I believe that, even though the two teams weren't even far apart (Pittsburg and Boston, the game was hyped up as the "World" Series, so its been like that ever since).

Many people consider Baseball to be America's sport, but its definately become an international sport.

Yankees dont have the pitching IMO.

Red Sox vs Cardinals

Let's see, Twins, A's, and Yankees - with Red Sox as the wild card in the AL.
Cards, and 3 teams that have to make the playoffs, because they need 4 NL teams.

Sox will lose. Twins just spanked the Yanks, but don't have enough SP. A's won a few against the Twins last week (in many, many extra innings).

I'll say Cards over the A's in 6, but I'm pulling for the Twins to beat the Cards in the World Series...again! ;)
