Worlds most peaceful countries

Doesnt one or more Skandinavian countries have no army at all? They should count among the most peacefull too.

But then again they have very high suicide rates, so i guess there is another kind of violence going on there...

What about Costa Rica? They don't have a military!

icelands the only one that sort of doesnt have a military but they do have an armed coast guard and i think 1 small infantry unit

Dunno about suicide rates, but they all have a standing army. Iceland doesn't really have an army, but its coast guard is militarized.

Ireland at number 6 surprises me.
I guess IRA doesn't count, as they do (done) most of their damage on the other side.

Bangs head on table, they were classing countries, Northern Ireland is part of the United Kingdom, it is not a part of Ireland in the political sense.
The troubles with the IRA from the sixties was in Northern Ireland.
Would you be a conservative hard working type ?

That's what I just said, (or meant anyway) that they can be so high up on the list because IRA didn't cause the trouble in the Republic.
I think that since I heard that this guy whose house I stayed in Dublin was pretty big in IRA, I've always mentally connected the IRA to the Republic as well.

Me conservative?
That's a no.

I'm surprised Pakistan is so violent. I thought there would be at least a dozen African states less peaceful.

Oddly the IRA killed a hell of a lot more catholics than protestants. They also killed a lot more catholics than the british army or the irish protestants. As often seems the way with such factions.

Excluding the troubles up north which never really impacted us and which finished about 15 years ago we haven't been in a war since 1923.

Edit: Iceland seems like a warmonger compared to us - it must be the Viking in them.

Crap list is crap. Costa Rica should be #1.

EDIT: What the heck is Qatar doing on there? And Canada, which has tons of troops in Afghanistan IIRC.

It's not just about external military but internal stability. Costa Rica has a murder rate ~50% higher than the US.

New Zealand is num 1;)
Interesting how the most peaceful countries are those that are seen as socialistic by some people.
It seems the further religion has a input into every day life and politics the less peaceful a country is.
Of course allowing people to carry handguns at will tends to make what would have been a minor tiff, deadly.

I dunno about that. China and North Korea are atheist and are extremely violent. A lot of sub-Saharan Africa has had civil wars without a strong religious influence. The old USSR was expansionist and violent.

Meanwhile you have countries like Poland and Italy that have a stronger religious influence and don't bother anyone. I'd say there is little or no correlation.
