On topic: The car alarm. Seriously, when was the last time you heard a car alarm and thought "Holy crap, someone's getting carjacked."

Is there a more universally ignored sound than the car alarm. If they want to get people to pay attention they need to change it to the sound of a dog yelping in pain. Then everybody would looking for the dog that is in trouble. Now when we hear the current sound we just try to ignore it and go about our business. A big contributor to its inefectiveness are all those people who ues the alarm to find their cars in parking lots.

In the last one, yes. I think it's called Enemy at the Gates, but that could be something else. Neo-Nazis nuke the Superbowl, taking out Baltimore while blaming it on Russia. Great idea, good script, not at all a bad movie. It's just that even with Morgan Freeman carrying him, Affleck can't pull it off.

I agree that it was a terrible invention. The idea was that the debtor's family and/or friends would try to pay off the debt or settle with the creditor in order to get the debtor out of prison.

Of course it would. Money is not the only thing that can motivate people. In fact, I would argue that money only gives bad motivation.
