Creative is counted as a bad trait? How so? Your cities develop, on average, about 20 turns faster when creative. You can hook up resources almost immediately, unlike non-creative chars. Ever expanding borders FTW. Plus, as creative, it's almost impossible to lose a city to cultural pressure.
As for Catherine, I play noble-emperor Regular Civ, no expansions or patches, and Catherine is 'the bomb'. When I play as her, I generally run about 300 gpt with 100% research in the late game, and NEVER drop below 90% research level. If I play as someone else, Catherine is a great ally... easy to please, gives good deals, and is an excellent war partner. She's not afraid to DOW, and fights pretty creatively, especially with cossacks. And she doesn't really pillage too much... mostly just goes for cities.
