.....I decided to maintain a computerised dossier on all my contacts, containing all the important information about them which I can find on the internet, along with a section containing data which only I am privy to (not confidential, or told in confidence - I wouldn't put that in writing - but stuff which only someone knowing them can know)?

EDIT:

I'm not talking about facebook or anything, I'm talking about maintaining a set of files on my computer, relating to my real-life contacts, college mates, et al, containing

a) All the data I can dig up about them on the internet, and
b) Other information I have managed to obtain about them, from personal interaction, that is not of a confidential nature

You mean CFC contacts?

I don't think you should put personal information about your friends on facebook.

Kinda weird...

But when I sleep with a girl I make her sign a legal document claiming this is a one night stand, she cannot yell RAPE and there are no guarantees that we will both leave this room happy.

They sign though.

That's up to you, OP. As long as you don't use them in nefarious plots :p

Wierd, Yes.

Takes up too much space. I hope you have an external HD or a Flash Thumb Drive to store all that junk ;).

Do you feel a strange sense of joy when you go through it?

If you do, it is weird/creepy.
If you don't, it's perfectly OK so long as you don't publish it.

I haven't created it yet. ;)

To be honest, the main motivation for making this is creep out the more simple-minded of my college mates, not conversant with the joys of the internet ;), by telling them little details about them I found on the internet which they thought were obscure, or telling them that I have a "file" about them with me.

The more perceptive or knowledgeable ones will know that I've simply used the almighty Google.

To be honest, I would be real creped out if someone did that. Since I feel then they would have ammo to use against you.

Yes, but there's nothing wrong with it per say...

It wouldn't take up that much space. A few hundred megabytes would store more then you could possibly need.

Not very realistic that he would ever need a few hundred megabytes for that. A thousant A4 pages take only a few hundred kb; something less than 1kb/page.

:D

Be careful though, they might go nuts because of this, people don't like when somebody knows certain things (I wouldn't :mischief: ).

It sounds like a waste of time, but then, visible postcounts always remind me of the futility of that argument...

Whatever floats your boat.
