Is this a one-day event , a long weekend or what?

A set schedule of events has yet to be finalized, but the current consideration is Friday night until Sunday afternoon.

go west coast somewhere and i'm there.

Baltimore is the HQ for both Firaxis and Big Huge Games.

Well I live in the D.C. area...

...Will you offer C.E.U.'s? :crazyeye:

...Will you offer C.E.U.'s? :crazyeye:

C.E.U.'s?

For those of you who have voted other, do you have a different time period in mind? Other then booth babes and a Q/A with Firaxis/2k, is there any other requests for booths or events that you would like to see?

I didn't vote yet because I haven't discussed it with my wife.

I'm still trying to get a better idea of what this is:dunno:

Beyond the lecctures and panels I'd speculate-

Only teenagers within commuting distance.

Opportunities for modders to demonstrate their work.

Opportunities to buy moderators and modders meals and drinks.;)

Opportunities for hands -on technical assistance.

Opportunities for international gamers to cash in on the low dollar and attend.

Uh, will there be people in helmets or costumes and carrying swords?:viking::queen::egypt:

t-shirts and other stuff to buy?

wii Revolutions demos?

Some kind of tournament?

Or maybe a Hall -of -Famer doing a presentation on one of their games complete with screenshots?

Well I live in Baltimore but I have no idea what a Civilization convention would be like. What can we do at those that we can't do here? You don't need to gather to give a presentation or a lecture you can just do it online.

The convention went obsolete when The Internet was built. ;)

I've never attended any kind of convention though. They have Otakon down here at the convention center and it's not the kind of thing I'd like to attend. Too many weirdos not my cup of tea, and I'm not an anime fan nether so why would I bother?

Basically to get me to show up they'd have to come up with some real good ideas. Like what Bill n Ted did in that movie went back in time and get the actual leaders. Have em show up at the event, and I'll be there. :D

C.E.U.'s? ...

"Carnegie Educational Units". A lot of professions require additional training to renew licences. I was being a little tongue-in-cheek.

My question is simpler and similar to Rusty's. How techie-oriented would it potentially be (I'm not really an IT person, but I admire the modders) and/or would it be something my 8 and 10 year old could enjoy?

Last con there were several Firaxis special guests and autograph signings (yes, Sid Meier was one of them), there were hosted LAN and MP games, and Firaxis provided an exclusive play preview of the then-to-be released Warlords expansion. We hope to top that convention, so look forward to a lot of excitement in our civ comunity!

It will not be all teenagers who attend, as many will fly in for the convention, myself included.

CivCon will be held in Baltimore, Maryland.
I hope that CFC pays up the voyage, the stay and will give visa paperwork for those that by accident live outside of the States :sarcasm:

Oh well, moving on...... :(

Opportunities for international gamers to cash in on the low dollar and attend.
Still a little out of my price range, for one. ;)

Sounds interesting, a shame it's not held anywhere I have a chance of getting to in the near future. :)

I'm in.

Late June will not work for me.

Otherwise, summer of 2009 is wide open. I do need the date narrowed down by the end of the year to keep my calender clear.

You know the firaxis people who could come could easily write off any travel expenses as valid business expenditure, put it on the tab as it were..
but in any case, as its happening in the US, and im over here in the UK...i wont be attending.....'dam woulda been great but nvm.....
in any case if you guys do have a workshop..
perhaps one on 'Diplomacy' should be in order.....right now it does seem too simplistic....AI demands xyz from human, human accepts (+1), human rejects (-1)..
something to make the diplomacy more akin to real life diplomatic actions would be great....(i cant remember the last time someone demand a tech off the UK  ) ....
international summits like G8, supra-national bodies like the EU, NAFTA, AU, etc........
civ is moving in the right way with the newer interesting resolutions, but it definitely has some way to go.
cheers!

I always take Labor Day week off (it's nice to have a little seniority on the job) so sometime around then would work well.

Only if I can combine it with Woodstock 2009.

No, wait. It sounds tremendously cool but I doubt I'm going to buy an intercontinental air ticket to be there :o

It's in B'more.

I'd have to show you on map, but geographically Baltimore is 4 hours from everywhere! (at least on my Civ map...) :p
